Well, you lost me on the Glucose.
HbA1c. That'll be on the same scale as mine. I was 64 I believe. Some people on here have been around 100. And 48 is then "you're diabetic" point.

I think I'm right in saying that my figure of 67 refers to an average over three months. The Blood Glucose figure of 9.5 refers to a one off test on the day. At least that's my interpretation of the information. There's a fair bit of discussion about the confusion further up this thread.

HbA1c Conversion Table (Glycaemic Control) shows the conversion of the HBA1c to moll/mol.

Yes that's right Browser. Hope you can get those levels down successfully soon. Good luck!

Thanks. I think I'm going in the right direction.
My FBG on the last three mornings were 6.8, 6.8 and 6.5. My pre meal readings for the last two evenings were 7.1 to 7.7 ( two hours later) and 7.2 to 9.0.(two hours later).

Looking good Browser, well done! 🙂

Yes, that's the HbA1c. As far as I know it's an average of your blood glucose.

Finger prick, drop of blood put straigh on a test strip in a meter. This gives your current level.

Yes. And we've had it before. There's the two test. Then the two scales used for the HbA1c (average glucose), one that look like that used for the finger prick test.

Yes - your blood glucose level (bgl) which you test every day using the test strips, lancets & meter - (finger prick test) waking bgl in the morning - pre meal then test 2 hours after a meal. You're getting there sunshine!

You're HcA1c blood test is taken every 3 months by a Phlebotomist in your GP'S surgery or local walk-in centre. They are two separate blood glucose tests.

Just to complicate matters, sometimes my GP orders a spot check blood test as part of the armful I'm having taken for annual tests, ( and not using a fingerprick machine, I mean) as well as the HbA1c.

Really? 😱 that's sneaky! So unfair you have to go through this when seeing your GP - especially if you'd had a heavy naughty meal the night before!!!

My GP always used to order these random proper blood tests but they're just a snap shot like the finger prick test so not necessarily affected by meals the night before. They were normally fasting morning tests in my case and gave my glucose level at that point. Then the GP's received guidance from the Dept. of Health (acc. to my GP) that using the Hba1c was to be the way to test in future.

Well it's a really pointless test, because by the time I've walked down to the surgery with no breakfast and no insulin, the Dawn Effect is really getting going, so I'm always going to be a lot higher than on a normal morning. Luckily the nurse understands that, I just don't know why they bother to have it on the list of useful tests to do.

It was pointless for me too because it didn't uncover my tendency towards glucose intolerance for too long (I suspect!).
