Just realised with reading all these HbA1c threads that I didn't post about my own review a couple of weeks ago. I've been waiting an extra 5 months for this 'annual' review because the surgery nurse who 'does' diabetes left and they were waiting for a replacement 🙄 Well, the good news is that the replacement is really good! I found her very easy to talk to, she seemed very knowledgeable about Type 1, didn't rush the appointment (took about 40 minutes), and said she was actually interested in meeting me because my version of Type 1 is particularly weird unusual 🙂

HbA1c came in at 34 mmol/mol (5.3%), which is the same as last time - can't complain about that! 🙂

Cholesterol was 4.6, down from 5.2 last time and with a good split - she was pleased with this (apparently the one prior to that had been 6.2) and didn't push the statins 🙂

Liver readings were slightly elevated, but they always are and not a cause for concern (GP thinks it may be due to Gilbert's Syndrome, which produces elevated bilirubin numbers, but is essentially benign).

Kidneys fine 🙂

Checked my feet - pulses were 'excellent' 🙂 We discussed the slight numbness I have been feeling in the tips of my big toes, but sensitivity was fine, as was the 'fill' test where they press the toe and see how long it takes for the blood to get back and restore the pink colour (it did it instantly). We concluded that it might actually just be down to my running placing particular stresses on the toes. I think that may be right as I have done about 600 miles over the past year, and maybe I am just more aware of anything affecting my feet since diagnosis and it always happened (running for 34 years! 🙂)

So, a good outcome 🙂 Also, she asked when I wanted the next review and I asked for 6 months (keeps me sensible!) which is what I always used to have until they switched me from clinic to surgery.

Only complaint was the hideous cold I reckon I must have picked up in the waiting room! 😱

Wow, Northerner, what excellent results! And how lovely to find a nurse who is interested and informed 🙂 ....keep hold of that one!

Alan,
Thats a preety spot on appointment well done,Ive never heard of the fill test before never had that done all I get is the doppler? thing on the soles of my feet and to check the pulses.
Shame on the cold though always ironic you go into a surgery feeling well and come out and your ill.🙄

Great results, I'd definitely hang on to that nurse she sounds great.

They are excellent results. Well done! And great you have a new nurse who's interested and helpful 🙂

Well done Alan!

Well done you.😛

Brilliant results, Alan. I had the foot tickle test this time. First time since diagnosis! All was fine though.

Delighted that you have found another good nurse, there are some around, lets hope she loves the job and does not decide to move on. Fabulous results Alan, I hope that you are going to have a little treat to celebrate? Iam in awe of all the miles that you have clocked up, you must be super fit. So glad that you have had a good appointment 🙂

I am going away for a long weekend next week and must phone up for a review appointment when I get back :(. I also have not been called for the eye check this year. I wonder if I need to ask about that? I had a very thorough consultation with the optician a couple of months ago including photographs of the back of the eyes etc and she was happy. Hmmm! I don't want to bother them but maybe I should?

That's excellent. Glad you've got a decent person to relate to. I wonder if I'll ever get to see anybody, apart from the doc that is. At least they send me for eye checks. 🙂 I would like cholesterol readings like yours.

Well done Alan
Excellent results.

That's fantastic northerner. Hell, if you were type 2 they'd be taking you off the Diabetic Register with those levels! 😛

Brilliant results! I've got a review soon, lord knows what it will reveal, I'm a bit worried to be honest as it will be my first one since DX 😱

@Lucy Honeychurch hope it all goes ok but don't be to disheartened if there's something that comes from it that's not good because it just gives you the motivation to work that bit harder. Good luck

Fantastic results there northerner xx 🙂

Great results for you, Northerner. Hope I get such a good nurse 🙂
