Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi all

I got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in Jamuary this year. I had my first dianetic review in Feb and started metformin 500mg bd then.
Apparently Im already doing the right things by trying to eat well and exercising, I have a personal trainer.
Im finding it harder now I have a diagnosis. Work have been really good and let me come in later as Im feeling really tired. I just feel like Im making excuses now I have a condition and am worried Im not going to change my lifestyle enough.
Is this normal?

Hi Kelly,
A warm welcome to the forum its only natural to have the feelings your experiencing your only a couple of months diagnosed, having a PT and what sounds like a supportive work arena is fantastic, your certainly not making any excuses so please dont think you are, sounds like you have taken the bull by the horns on this one and you arent resting on your lorals and long may in continue. How are your finding taking the metformin? x

Thanks
Im finding metformin ok. I started on MR as I have ibs and heard it can be bad for your tummy. To be honest my ibs is bad daily so Ive not noticed any difference with the metformin.
The first few weeks I felt exhausted which I thought may be me getting used to the medication and my blood sugar getting lower (but still a bit high) and that seems to have eased off now

Are you testing then ?. Yeah some of us who are taking the Met have found it causes tummy troubles, many have renamed is metfartin on here LOL.Sorry to hear about the ibs cant be easy to have had another condition to contend with.

Welcome Kelly, the good news is that once you get your BG under control then you will start to feel better & have more energy

No Im not testing but Im a mental health nurse so I do random tests at work. Especially if I feel unwell. Before I got diagnosed I was usually 15 which is why I asked for a proper blood test. Now Im between 9-11 so its going in the righ direction.
