Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
HI, Im a newbie to this forum, so hello to all .... Im a person living with Diabetes Type 1 and have been for the past 40 years, seems a lifetime somehow. Currently on a pump (Medtronic) and using their CGM Sensors, thankfully. Diabetes is well very up and down, I long for the day when its relatively flat, keep trying ...but its always been that way unfortunately. Looking forward to learning more about the disease and tips etc. Also doing the LCHF regime, losing weight and doing well but now at a standstill unfortunately ... :(

Thanks grovesy .... its weird isnt it, in all the time Ive lived with Type 1, rarely have I come across other people with the same disease .... so Im hoping this forum will help ....

Welcome to the forum @Scrumpyjack65 if there are any questions you have just post them in the relevant section and someone on here will be able to help, they are a right friendly bunch here 🙂 x

Great to know @Kaylz . Im keen to chat to users who are doing the LCHF regime but cant find any recent posts etc, am I looking in the wrong place?

You have probably done this already but if not have you tried typing LCHF into the search box at the top of the page, I just tried it and it came up with 10 pages of results, I didn't have a look at any of them though to see if they would be of any help x

@Martin Canty may be able to help you at some point though there are a few members on the forum that do LCHF x

Hello Scrumpyjack and welcome to the forum from another pumper 🙂

Hi Scrumptyjack
Warm welcome to the forum.

Hi Scrumpyjack, welcome to the forum.....

I speak as a T2 not insulin dependent, but if there are any T1's who do LCHF & IF then please leap in

IF (Intermittent Fasting) can kickstart weight loss, if you find that you have reached a point where no matter what you do (reduce carb intake, eat less etc) then just taking a break from food for a while can start things up again. There are several ways to do IF, one of the most common is 16/8 where you fast for 16 hours & eat your food in the other 8 (or perhaps narrow the window down to 4 hours), sometimes I do a 24 hour fast though have never gone beyond that.
During fasting many people drink Bone Broth (particularly on 24 hour) as a treat (personally I prefer coffee, not as good for you though:()

IF is not for everyone, before starting, do some research, there are arguments either way, I saw an article this morning which was opposed to IF.... It was a very poorly written article full of information that was just wrong). There are many good resources but I'd suggest looking for Jason Fung on YouTube, some very good lectures on the topic.

After touting IF for a few paragraphs, I'd also like to mention exercise... An invaluable tool for everyone, not just D's. My current regime is that I walk the dogs daily, not as far as I would like as the eldest is 16, practice Yoga 2-3 times a week & have fairly active side pursuits to offset sitting at a computer all day. When the clocks change I'll also get my bicycle out.
