My husband had his Hba1c and microalbuminuria results back 2 weeks ago and both was raised. So he has cut out all cakes, puddings yoghurts etc.so anything he is eating is hidden etc..He changed from shredded wheat to porridge with a banana for breakfast.I know the riper the banana , the more sugar. He had his breakfast at 7am,Before dinner his bloodsugar was 10.3.Any ideas how he can reduce these levels,We thought his sugars would reduce if he cut all these sugary things out but they havent.Does tamulosin medication affect some peoples sugars too,Thank you

Unfortunately both porridge and bananas can play havoc with our levels, what was his reading before his breakfast, did he check his level 2 hours after and how long after breakfast was his dinner, sorry just trying to collect information so people can try and help x

breakfast was 7am, and dinner was 11.45, nothing to eat in between.Tomorrow he is going to cut out the banana. He usually had shredded wheat but we thought porridge might be better. He is on metfomin 2/1/2

Porridge sometimes not as good as it is reported to be some can tolerate others can't. The other thing is it could be the portion size.

How about scrambled egg or yogurt and some berries for breakfast, they are very low carb.
By testing BGs just before meals then two hours after eating, you can find out which carbohydrates are tolerated better than others .
I don't know if anyone has given you links to some useful info and books we recommend on this site.
One of them is "Test review Adjust" by Alan S

You'll find the above and much more, on the pinned thread called " useful links for people new to diabetes" over in the newbies say hello here forum.

now if this was me ,,,, try and write down insulin taken after morning blood sugar , the amount of carbs, you eat .
cereal s have carbs on the box write that down to
same for lunch and evening meal after day 3 look at all the results if high sugars after 2 hours increase INSULIN at meal times same if to low reduce insulin
so i.e. carbs for shredded wheat say 30 carbs average banana 25 carbs and the milk say 5 carbs /10 carbs total 60 carbs , plus insulin to cover this
see what i am trying to do , as reply said .
we need all information food , plus insulin, plus blood sugars .when high when low look back to find this out good luck vic on insulin 60 years

I don't think Dilys has logged into the forum since March, Victor, and it looks like her husband was on Metformin only at that point, not insulin.

No worries, we're all guilty of whoopses like misreading posts or jumping to conclusions on occasions!

Hello Dilys, I think scrambled eggs for breakfast is best. 🙂 I should do that. 🙄
