Hi guys,

So I finally got the cold/flu like illness which everyone has had over Dec/Jan.

Started last Wed, 2 days sneezing, running and blocked nose, headache. I spent the whole weekend in bed, sleeping.

Its now developed into earache, and it hurts.

Feels like my whole right side of my head/face is being pressed. And my ear channel is throbbing.

So do I go to the doctors or do i fight it out?
Its been 2 days and only seems to be getting worse. Having trouble sleeping and now my teeth hurt too.

Thanks, xx

Any suggestions other than keep it warm and dry?

Being diabetic it makes it harder to shift infections, and I don't doubt your BGs have been a bit up and down. Clearly you've had a virus infection, but you might have an opportunistic bacterial ear infection. I know doctors are less inclined to give kids with ear infections antibiotics, but I honestly don't know the current policy in diabetic adults. In other words, go and say hello to the doctor.

I'd have the GP look at it too, only because ear infections are painful blighters and I try to avoid pain of that magnitude. Well actually I'd try something else first which might be helpful, and if that didn't help I'd toddle of to the surgery. Sometimes I get earache if my sinuses are very upset, not infected just very "full". so I try a good albas oil steam (bowl, hot water with a few drops of albas and a towel, carefully so as not to burn my nose which has happened!). If the steaming gets things moving and that alleviates the pain I do that a few times a day for a few days and that normally sorts it out. If it has no impact then it's the ear itself and I'm off and running to the GP. I only mention that because my key alert to blocked sinuses is my teeth hurting and you mentioned your teeth. Hope it sorts itself out or the GP does wonders 🙂

I think that's what it is, feels like a head cold. But on my right side mainly.

I got some Vicks last night. Covered my back, chest and neck in the stuff. I couldn't breath through my nose or smell, but my chest and back felt better. I did the steam thing too, again I didn't notice much difference, but my eyes where watering and my nose went runny so its doing something.

My only concern is getting to the doctors, I have to walk and its so cold out there, the idea of keeping my head warm is winning at the moment. Its so cold out there, and here its warm, and the dog is keeping me warmer ha!

I will see how I get on, I am off tomorrow too so I can go if needed tomorrow. I've got anther appointment at a drop in clinic tomorrow but the nurse said they have been quite so hopefully get time for both.

Thanks for the help folks, I will keep you updated.

Roll on the warmer weather!
