Got the work Christmas Party coming up and as usual its a free bar & Lunch. I'm ok with the lunch bit, i can sort that bit out. Here's my dilemma, recently diagnosed Type 2 i understand that alcohol should be taken in moderation but what does it mean? Is wine better than Lager? Are a couple of G&T's ok? I obviously want to respect all advice but i've never had to worry in the past, i was just wondering 'how much i can enjoy myself' if its possible to put a sensible limit on it! Thanks folks.

My preference would be Red Wine with a dinner/lunch..... Socially (my monthly outing with the boys) I have a beer but I notice it my FBG the next day.... I should think that G&T wouldn't be bad at all.

If your watching out for carbs wine and spirits are best but you will just have to try and work out what works best for you x

Red wine for me all the way - or whisky. Though I've found Guinness seems to be OK carb-wise: A pint is about 18g carb. I tried two and I didn't go too high - up to 10 then down to 5.4 within 2 hours. Possibly the alcohol helps.

I'll be sticking with Gin and Slimline tonic this Christmas. 🙂

Each to their own - personally, G&T seems like getting the worst two things you could possibly want to drink and mixing them together. To me it's like petrol and aftershave. Sloe Gin is a different matter, with ginger ale and a slice of lime.

I luv it. :D I was thinking of giving the sloe gin a whirl though. They have it in Aldi.

It's great and very easy to make. (Well apart from having your arms torn to shreds picking the sloes from the Blackthorn bushes in the first place) Just freeze the sloes, put them in a jar, add some sugar and fill with gin, leave for a couple of months, strain and drink.

Sadly, though we toured all our secret spots this autumn, no sloes were to be had. I blame global warming.

There were a lot round us this year, also plums and other things that flower early and sometimes fall prey to a late frost, we must have been lucky. I didn't get round to making any, because it takes ages to prick all the sloes, which I assume you don't have to do if you freeze them. Must try that next year.

I picked sloes last year and I found a recipe on line that said if you freeze them there was no need to pick.
I had very few plums this year when I normally have loads I think we had a late frost.

We came across some damsons in Dorset a couple of years ago - they make an even better drink than sloes. Richer and darker. The jam you can make with them instead of throwing them away is damn good too. And yeah, sloes burst when they've been frozen so no need to prick them - traditionally you should pick them after the first frost (I imagine because freezers hadn't been invented).

Im a real ale girl myself. And havent noticed a huge amount of issues after a couple. I even went camping at a brewery last year and was fine.

This is what i like to hear! Won't go overboard but determined to have fun and enjoy the Party.

I'm a real ale person myself. I find I get an initial rise after an hour then it drops back down.

What would you have, just a couple of pints?

Southern Comfort and 7-Up Free for the win! 😉

I also like a Cuba Libre (white rum and Pepsi Max, optionally with a splash of lime cordial) — made it with Malibu coconut rum last night, it was even better.

I've never tried more than a pint at a time. I drank a lot of Stella on my weekend away & that didn't affect my levels at all
