Hi there, new to this, diagnosed Type 1 last Wednesday totally out of the blue no signs at all thought I wouldn't cope with injecting myself but I'm not doing too bad 🙂 bs is still quite high but I assume it just takes time had an appointment with nurse and dietician today and happy to find out I will be able to eat pretty much what I did before after I've learned more on carb counting etc, nurse put me up to 6 units of Novorapid for tea tonight as it's my birthday so he wanted to allow me to have a bag of crisps and 2 chocolates happy days haha, feel free to comment people would love to get to know you 🙂

Happy Birthday Kayla. 🙂You sound to be doing pretty well so far.

Happy birthday and glad you're learning to cope so quickly. Enjoy your day! 🙂

Hi Kaylz, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sorry to hear about your diagnosis :( How did it come about if you had no symptoms? Good to hear you are managing well with the injections, they're really not so bad. As the dietician says, carb counting will help you to match the insulin doses to the carbs in the food you want to eat, so it can be flexible. It's not a total license though, you do have to be a bit careful! 🙂 You'll discover more as you gain experience - very early days for you currently 🙂 Happy birthday, I hope you enjoy your treats! 🙂

If you have any questions at all, please ask - there's lots of knowledge and experience among the members here, so there's very little that we haven't encountered ourselves at one time or another 🙂

If you can, get hold of a copy of Type 1 Diabetes in Children Adolescents and Young People by Ragnar Hanas - it covers all aspects of living with Type 1. Although it's not cheap, it is worth it's weight in gold whatever your age 🙂

Happy Birthday & welcome to the group

Hello and welcome Kaylz 🙂

A diagnosis is a big shock to the system and there is a steep learning curve but bit by bit it does start to fall into place. Happy Birthday and enjoy your treats 🙂

Goodness! Lucky they caught it like that, a lot of people only get diagnosed when they are really ill (which is what happened to me! 😱)
