My brother's taking me out to dinner on Thursday. I haven't eaten out since diagnosis. Just can't decide whether to behave myself & replace chips for salad or just go for it. It's one of those places that do 48oz steaks.🙂

A 48oz Steak and loads of chips... remember, you're eating on behalf of all of us :D

I thought it was only the US that served sides of beef....

Go for it and enjoy your night out mark happy birthday

It's one night Mark - enjoy yourself! 🙂 My suspicion is that you have schooled yourself so well over the past few months that you won't actually want to go overboard, but just eat your fill! 🙂 Certainly, a giant steak won't affect your levels! 🙂

That much steak will probably slow down the digestion so much that any carbs you have with it will just trickle into the system slowly!
Have a lovely time.

Be sensible Marky...perhaps a seafood starter, steak and salad main and definitely no pudding 😱

Only joking. It's your birthday nosh-up...fill your boots mate! 😛

I probably won't go for the 48oz, might stick to the 32oz or go for the half leg of lamb.:D

Personally, I've never been able to manage those big steaks - I get bored with all the chewing! 😱 🙂 Maybe they haven't been very good steaks that I've tried in the past though. 🙄

I've never had a big steak either for the same reason. I still haven't made my mind up what to have yet.

If it was available I'd have a lamb shank, slurp!

I honestly don't think one indulgent meal is going to spiral you into a diabetic downfall Mark. Enjoy a few chips and have a pudding (with plenty of cream). Enjoy! 🙂

I sometimes I go to pub that do lovely lamb shanks though they serve on a pile of mash!

I wasn't planning on having a pudding, but now you've put it in my head, how can l refuse?:D

They don't actually shoot customers who don't eat their mash you know! LOL If it's a chain and the staff and management are reasonable - since the lamb shanks aren't actually cooked on the mash (!) you simply ask Can I have new potatoes (or whatever you want or don't want) with this instead of mash please? - and you can tell whether it's a decently run place or not by their reaction to the question !

It is not a chain ! I intend to ask next time I go , though it is the only time I eat mash now! It uses lots of fresh produce and meat from the butchers on the other side of the road!

I think with a Hba1c of 35 and experiments that show you can tolerate some carb, this shouldn't be causing you any concern at all Mark. Go and enjoy it, you know self restraint will stop you going mad or falling into the carb wayside again 🙂
