Hi all,
Quick query. Was just about to eat and I'm like 14.9 really unsure why so high but I had a biscuit earlier so maybe that was the.prob, I'm not on novorapid atm as I'm honeymooning but to get it down so I can eat I've given myself 2 units, is this OK? Also how long for it to start dropping? I'd rather it go down before I eat something. I won't overeat but just want something. Argh I'm stressing!! xx

Try not to worry, why not have a little non carb snack if you want to wait a bit. A bit of cheese or gam or something? I had an 18.9 last night coz I dutifully calculated my carbs and units, write everything down in my book as I have an appointment coming up and then didn't do the injection.

When I have days like that I go for a walk in fresh air & that calms things down. Good luck

Oh no really, argh. Thank you Steph I think I will I'm just worried about how it's gonna go overnight I haven't been this high before dinner since my diagnosis I'm gonna wait 10 more mins see how it is then xx

The recommendation is that bloods need to be 8 and below before eating, hope that helps.

Thank you sue i hope it goes down soon it's so late to eat now but I feel like I need something, I'm hungry lol xx

2 units sounds fine as a correction dose, Peapod - we're all a bit different, but it's what I'd have had for a 14.9 and I'm on very low doses of insulin.

Drink lots of water - 2 or 3 mugs - if you want to get your bgl down more quickly, that always helps - and as Hobie says, a brisk walk - if it's a bit cold & dark to go out, make it a brisk walk up and down the stairs a couple of times!

But bear in mind that if you do lots of different things to make your blood sugar go down, it may go down a bit further than you want, so don't overdo it.

I'd just eat if you're hungry, given that you've injected the insulin. Just try not to have any fast acting carbs for a bit! And fat is good, as Steph says - that will slow down what carbs you do have and give the insulin time to act.

Thank you that helps a lot, I've just been eating lots of houmous, veg, ham and now nuts and it's filled a void for sure. Just never know what to do in these situations I guess I'll learn in time xx

You will, it takes time, and none of us get it right all the time. Just make sure you test last thing before you go to sleep tonight and have a carby snack (eg ryvita or something else slow-acting) if you're a bit lower than usual.

Can you not have something carb free like an omelette ?

Ah I've eaten pretty well so fingers crossed something happens and I've drunk a lot, I just don't like being too high too long, well guess none of us do really huh xx
