Sounds lovely. And, that would have been my question too, it's a rare thing for me not to recognise the name of a meal... I'm a bit of a foodie.

My daughter lived and worked in Greece for some years and does a lot of greek cooking. Lynn is spot on with her description but this one was done in the slow cooker. Lovely it was and ne'er a blip on BG.

A lot of Greek meat recipes are great low carb. I will be there in May sampling their delights. *burp*

Jealous! See if you can persuade the recipe out of her and share it with us, please?

It's Greek stewed beef basically, and the meat is in nice big pieces, but literally drops apart and melts in the mouth.

An absolute staple of almost every taverna you might fall through the door of!

OOOOH !! - we just decorating the kitchen and Pete was fetching things down from the top of the run of wall cupboards amongst which was an elderly 2 litre green 'Sprite' lemonade bottle. What the heck? Took the lid off, cos there was a small amount of colourless liquid still in it, and sniffed.

Home made Raki bought from a taverna owner in Plakias (S coast of Crete) some years ago.

Bloomin lovely - still - after about 7 years!

Lol. The only sook I ever had of that gave me the impression you could use it as paint stripper. If it had 'gone off' you could have tried it.

Ah - some IS 'rough' I agree. Reminds me of old fashioned nail polish remover, usually. However - his isn't ! It is strong enough - but not too strong. You can easily drink too much of it, cos it's nice!

You know after dinner when you get a little tot of something after your meal, once you go there a second time? We went in there shedloads over the years, and had him trained pretty quick - to bring us BOTH a glass of raki!

Went to Kos last year. First time i had experienced real Greek food. All i can say is awesome! Loved everything i tried. Done beef stifado at home several times. Will have to try it by replacing potatoes with celeriac. My wife makes flatbread and we tried it using a combo of rye flour & chipatti flour to slow down the carbs, & it worked really well.

Alison it was slow cooker recipe off the internet. I know it also contained cinnamon.

Fab - love a beef stifado with all those lovely small onions, tomatoes and rosemary. In 10 weeks time we go to Symi Greece and this dish we'll definitely be on our 'must eat' list.
