Just lately I have noticed that if I knock myself on a door frame or whilst servicing our car I am bruising easily only on my arms and wrists. This has been going on since I turned sixty or so especially if I engage in DIY of any sort. Does anybody else who is getting on a bit have this trouble? I noticed last year whilst ripping out a kitchen that my thigh also bruised I was wearing shorts at the time. It would be nice to hear your thoughts. AM.

Perhaps a GP visit for some blood tests as it could be a simple iron deficiency.

What Sue said. It's something I've got used to as I have an almost permanent iron deficiency and have always bruised easily. A quick trip to the surgery and yet another blood test should tell you if that's it.

Need to check your platelet levels too Austin Mini because that causes excessive bruising. A blood test would confirm. It could possibly be an iron deficiency and we tend to bruise more easily as we get older.

As it happens I made an appointment today for a blood test for an upcoming diabetic review. I will contact the nurses and see if they can take extra blood to test for this. Thanks for your help never thought I could be low in iron.

Had an emergency appointment this morning. Doctor said its not iron dificiency but blood platelets are top of his list. Blood test requests printed for my appointment on 10th March. Liver, onions and mash for dinner tonight!

Hope you get it sorted Austin 🙂 Love liver and onions (especially with bacon!) - haven't had it for ages - you never see it in supermarkets these days.

If you have a Sainsbury's nr you look in their fresh ready meals section 🙂

If it is thrombocytopenia (low platelet count), it would help to increase your Vit C intake with foods high in it. I have a full blood count done every 3 months because of leukaemia and platelet count is always high on the list of things to watch. Obviously different in my case though. Yours will be easy to build up again with the right foods and treatment. He may want to look at your absorption of B12 too.

Thanks Amigo, I have just bought some vit c tabs which are taken with water. Vit c plus zinc from Tesco. Am I on the right track here?

Err - I don't think you should take anything at all to address it, until after the blood has been taken for the test TBH Austin.

I agree with Jenny. It's good to naturally increase Vit C through food choices but I wouldn't take supplements without your GP suggesting they're needed.

I was thinking they might work and mask the fact that Austin has the prob, so the doc wouldn't think he needed to do anything/take any notice whereas I think we all feel, he should - cos it needs addressing properly.

True Jenny which is why I deliberately didn't recommend supplements - just naturally occurring Vit C in food. May be totally unconnected of course because there's a number of reasons for low platelets but it would be great if simple dietary changes could solve it.

Let's hope they sort it out Austin, I was one big bruise for 12 months whilst they sorted out my iron, dodgy big platelets and B12 problems out. Felt so much better once they'd got it all back on track, well I did for 6weeks before the DKA hit me🙄. Try to avoid bumping into things in the meantime 🙂

Going to buy myself some overalls as I have to replacd the timing belt on my twenty year old Renault Clio soon.
