Relationship to Diabetes

Well not quite. About 20 years ago I read a book about life with dabetes written by a young woman who had been diagnosed as a child. I would be interested in reading it again but cannot remember its name. The title did have some reference to the metallic taste some people get when they go hypo. Does anybody remember the name of the book?

Apologies for dredging a really old thread but I was just thinking of this book. I don't think I'd been diagnosed that long when my Mum brought it back from the library. I read it and thought WTF - is this what I've got to look forward to! If I remember correctly she had brittle diabetes so had lots of trouble with hypos. It's close to 30 years since I read it. May get a copy from Amazon and have a re-read. Anyone else remember it/read it?

Never heard of it Matt ! By 1986 treatment had started to change though, at least the 'Human' insulins were around - and meters definitely - so by the time you were diagnosed all of us had a far better chance of living long and prospering without too much of the trauma - providing we had a good 'Team' to assist us.

I remember there were quite a few funny bits as well. One where she was teaching and had a hypo and started to strip off in front of the students. (I wonder why I remember that particular bit? :D ). The metal jam bit refers to the metallic aftertaste in sugar free jam. Let us know what you think of it.

Now I definitely don't want a hypo at work! Mind you, some of my students wouldn't even notice if I stripped off...🙄

Oops! No, not yet Matt, I got distracted down the path of Soviet history! 😱 Thanks for reminding me though, it will provide a distraction from the misery - will read it this week 🙂
