Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi All,
I was diagnosed back in June as a type 2 diabetic - It hasnt been an easy few months trying to work out what is what. Thankfully i have found some great information online - which is just as well as my GP hasnt been that good at all. I did see "Diabetic Nurse" at my GP surgery, but she wasnt great.

Still, i have found this forum now and so please brace yourselves for an onslaught of questions from me 🙂
Looking forward to chatting to people.

Hi Mr Sweet, welcome to the forum 🙂 How did you come to be diagnosed? Are you on any medication for your diabetes? Any and all questions are welcome! 🙂

Hi Northerner 🙂
I was waking up ever few hours in the night to go loo, so i knew that being a symptom as well as drinking gallons of water and still be thirsty was signs, so i went to the dr... and he confirmed my fears.
My fasting BS was 19 and my 3 monthly reading was 101 - I am on metformin. I declined insulin for now, as i want to see how well i can control it with diet. I am doing a LCHF diet, and my sugars are way down now to between 8 and 9. Not perfect but getting there.

Wow, that's a high fasting level 😱 Great to see you are getting it under control! 🙂

Hiya Mrsweet - I am new to all this as well so we can learn together - also lchf 😉

Hi Mr Sweet !

Unusual for a T2 to be offered insulin straight away - but really with levels as high as that, it would perhaps be safer to get it down a bit quicker? You never know how their brains are working unless they explain though! Normally they slap you on Metformin then discover months later that your not T2 LOL

(Err, I don't know whether you need a link in your sig to Diabetes UK - when they pay for the webspace for this forum? LOL)

Hey Lynn - Great to see another newbie!! There is soooo much to take in! Even with just the LCHF 🙂

Hi trophywench - I did manage to bring the levels down using LCHF which was good. I was shocked they wanted me on insulin right away and i am pleased i said no to start. I feel a sense of responsibility to do what i can to make myself better.
When i was first diagnosed, i had no real information given to me and that PDF was my bible. It answered so many questions for me that i just want to share it 🙂

Thanks

Lichfield is the easy bit! Did Atkins back in the day so got that one ok. It's all the rest to take in!

Where did Lichfield come from! That should be lchf!

Gotta take more notice of this darned autocorrect!
