Hi Jo1, welcome to the forum 🙂 I'm not a parent, but I do know that schools have certain responsibilities towards your child. What treatment regime is she on i.e. what insulin? Does she do her own injections and tests? Does she know how to treat her highs and lows yet (I know it's still very early days).

I would suggest getting a copy of Type 1 Diabetes in Children Adolescents by Ragnar Hanas - THE best book about Type 1. Also, there are more details about what you should expect from her school on the following links:

Hopefully, other parents will be along with more advice and sources of help and information 🙂

Hi Jo

Sorry to hear about your daughter's diagnosis, and that her school are not being very helpful!

Probably the staff are just a bit nervous about it, but that means they need education. Is there a care plan in place at school for her? My daughter has one at her primary school, and so far the staff have been excellent and have followed it to the letter. Schools now by law have to be able to deal with this sort of thing. Could your DSN help you with this, I.e. Go into the school (either with or without you) to educate staff and formulate a suitable care plan, or update it if there is one? I was in school a lot in the early days helping to sort out problems (although of course my daughter was much younger so that might make a difference) but as we all learned about the condition it got much less and now I hardly ever have to go in.

I hope you manage to get it sorted!
