It sound like one of those silly NHS rules to me. Three strikes and you're out, even if they know you didn't realise you were striking so to speak. I'd give the GP a nudge and then apply my personal two strikes rule and complain constructively and see how that goes. Ridiculous that you should have to, but bureaucracy rules.

Maybe we could offer to swap with them for a few days, faulty pancreas for a functioning one. I reckon they'd come crawling back in the first four hours, tail between their legs 😉

I think I would like people to experience one day of Diabetes. Then they can go back to being non-D again but with the true knowledge of what it feels like!

As for my clinic situation I have started writing a letter to Aneurin Bevan - a very detailed letter telling them of all the issues I have had with the RGH since I was a teenager (I was with them for 5 years before I moved to Aberystwyth and you could probably call it bullying). If they don't listen to me I will get my team of solicitors on them (my best friend is also a solicitor!) and as well as this I am going to my GP to let them know how the lack of support is affecting my everyday life and not helping my depression! I feel that if I do all this, someone has to do something!

I think I have read before that according to NICE guidelines I can choose to change clinics if there is a good reason. Am I imagining this or does anyone know if it is true?

I think you're right Lauren, or at least the Patient's Charter allows for it. I'm sure there will be someone in here who can tell us.

Thank you Alison 🙂 and thank you everyone for your support 🙂 I have just sent a very lengthy complaint email to Aneurin Bevan telling them that they need to sort out a clinic for me. I feel so much better since posting here, thanks everybody 🙂

Hiya Lauren. Hope you sort out your lack-of-clinic situation really soon. Sounds like the NHS have failed you royally. Did you go to uni in Aber? 🙂

Hi Bloden, yes I did 🙂 I did the first year of my English Lit degree twice and then I worked in small Lloyd's pharmacy for a few years. Now I'm finishing my degree in Cardiff, much better for English lol. I had the best time of my life in Aber but it is just such an expensive town to live in :( One day I hope to go back, I have a lot of friends there who I don't get to see very often!

So glad you have complained Lauren. I cannot believe peoples ignorance when it comes to diabetes, it is infuriating. You just stand up for yourself and tell it how it really is, it is the only way to educate people. Try and stay posative and not to let it upset you, people are quite ignorant and you know the truth of it. Take care, I hope you get a clinic apt soon...TinTin

Don't you DARE wish diabetes on such nasty people!

All diabetics are LOVELY people - and we certainly don't want THEIR sort !

Both fab places to go to uni! I did Spanish at Aber, then went to Swansea Uni, then Cardiff Uni. Eventually had to stop being a student and get a job, boo hoo.
Good luck with evthing.🙂

Hello Lauren

I have not been on the site for many months because I have had some serious problems requiring emergency hospitalization. I am still going back and fore to the hospital in Ubeda but they have now told me that I don't need to go back until April 2015.

I was so very sorry to read of the problems you are having with RGH. I worked there for many years and was of course a regular at the diabetic clinics. The staff there were always lovely, particularly Dr Hughes and the diabetic sister Glenys Matthews. It is more than likely that these two wonderful people are now retired.

They were all very good to me considering I was a 'denial' patient at first and again I am so sorry that standards seem to have gone downhill.

I do so hope that you get things really sorted out and I would advise that you constantly remind them that the patient (or 'client' as we were told to refer them as) is the number one priority. The RGH has (or had) an extremely efficient patient complaint service. Use it and don't give up.

I wish you all of the best - Michael

Hi Lauren Im so glad you left the FB group. Dont give them a second thought, pure ignorance. When I come across ignorant people I sometimes wish they could have diabetes for a day too😉 and see how they like it. Diabetes is often portrayed incorrectly in the media which doesnt help peoples perceptions either. It frustrates me. Anyhow Im glad you complained about your healthcare too, good for you. x Onwards and upwards x
