Hi Lynne, welcome to the forum!🙂

It can be confusing at first knowing what is suitable. Ideally, you need to be eating fresh fruit and vegetables, and choose wholemeal or seeded bread and wholemeal pastas. Have a look on Diabetes UK's site for some ideas.

People can react differently to different foods, so over time you will learn what food is OK and what to avoid. If you can get a session with a dietician, that would also help a great deal.

Hello and welcome to the forum Lynne 🙂. I would suggest a healthy balanced diet , plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables , maybe more activity if possible , walking etc . I am a Low Carber so I tend to limit Carbs but as a new diabetic you are best to just reduce them , reduce portion sizes of Carbs and you will also aid your weight loss. Brown bread and pasta , rice etc are good as they will fill you up longer and are slow release. Do you have a glucose monitor to check your sugar levels at home? if not ask your DSN for one ( they're free) so that you can see how different foods effect your levels etc. As for snacks , fruit , nuts etc are good . if you need any help at all dont hesitate to ask . 🙂

Hi Lynne,

Good luck
