Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Sue Townsend, who had diabetes for years, has died aged 68 years. Sadly, she lost her sight as a result of diabetes, in her 50s, and more recently, had a kidney transplant and a stroke.

Hence, I posted this in General Messagebaord, not Off the Topic.

That's very sad. And depressing :( - she'd had diabetes for less than 30 years, and had complications for at least half that time - not a happy thought for those diagnosed as 4 year olds....:( :(

I seem to recall reading that she had major issues in accepting the diagnosis and frequently forgot to inject herself for example.
Very sad to hear this news but certainly not typical life expectancy

Yes, I think I saw an interview with her where she was saying this.

That's very sad news and also very scarey and depressing, I feel a bit rubbish about the future now :(

I think that in an interview she gave to Balance magazine she described herself as "a bad diabetic" — including still smoking for a long while.

Still, it's a sad loss.

Ah yes, that's probably what I was thinking of.

That is sad news, I saw her give a television interview where she talked about losing her sight. I remember being annoyed at having to wait for the first Adrian Mole diary to be published in paperback so I could afford it, no Kindle back then.

Sad news. But panic not, there are plenty of us diagnosed aged 4 who are going strong 30 years on 🙂

In every article I have read concerning her diabetes, she has always blamed only herself for her complications, nothing and nobody else.

But still - what a waste of a life.
