Hi,

I've never had a problem with my feet before, but just recently - whilst losing weight and have better control over my BG than ever before - my feet are suffering !

I just can't seen to keep my feet warm...all day - and it's must worse at night....

I assume D related - though as I say, not had problem in last couple of years, just recently.

Other than the obvious warm socks / massage / hot water bottle, any suggestions or advice ??

Thanks/Helen

I'm really not sure about this Helen! I also suffer from cold feet, although I did to some extent prior to diagnosis, but they are definitely worse nowadays. I even got chilblains in the summer after I was diagnosed! 😱

My feet can be OK before going to bed, but as soon as I get in bed they freeze, even though the bed has been warmed by my electric blanket. It probably takes a couple of hours for them to warm up properly again.

My feet have been tested regularly for pulse and circulation and they are fine, so that doesn't seem to be a cause. Sorry, I'm not being very helpful! If you do try a hot water bottle, then be careful it is not too hot - I got one of these - the fleecy cover stops it from burning your feet.

I suffer front this too, how strange wonder how d related it is? Several socks, and putting extra layer towards end of beds, what I do sometimes helps a little

I think you've just about covered all the options Helen. I have a pair of fluffy bootees that I wear in bed to keep my tootsie toasty and a pair of those Japanese sandal thingies that massage your feet as you walk around.

I just use my husband to keep mine warm in bed.:D:D

Husbands are excellent for this purpose, I've had two and though I could easily complain about some traits - they both make wonderfully reliable radiators! (well can't vouch for the first one still doing it but the second one still does!)

Get your Thyroid checked though to make sure it ain't that!

My hands and feet are always cold. Even when I take my gloves off my hands are still cold. Same with my feet, I have blocks of ice attached to my ankles. Once my feet are cold that's it I just feel cold all over. Makes me so miserable some days. Brrrrr 😱

It's not just diabetics. Have a look at Cosy Feet.

Bed socks and good slippers go a long way to improving circulation.

My theory is that when you get control of your BGs and get them down to normal levels then your feet may become incredibly sensitive.

Mine certainly did, never had a major problem before diagnosis (apart being very ticklish) but now I have to wear socks or warm sheepskin slippers 24hrs a day.

If i don't, they get cold very quickly and the cold sensation literally turns to excruciating jabbing pains, especially at night. With the socks on they are fine.

I know what I'm getting for christmas :(

My hands and feet get very cold. I am back on Beta Blockers, which doesn't help. I have a very thick pair of thermal socks, too thick to wear with shoes, which keep my feet nice and warm. I sometimes wear them to bed when I am very cold, but the come off after about twenty minutes as they are very effective. I also wear a hoodie in the house when it is very cold, it helps to keep me warm.

It gets cold up here in the Highlands of Scotland.

Cheers

I have always had cold hands and feet even as a young girl and like Alan I developed chilblains in the summer 😱. I also wear bed socks all the year round 😱

An old Eskimo tradition teaches that cold feet are best warmed by holding them against another person's belly. Not only is it good for the feet, it's also an excellent test of friendship!

always had cold feet

after being diagnosed it of course got blamed on D
about 10 years ago GP couldn`t find a pulse in one ankle

after referral to consultant he chucked me of his list😱
laughing as he said, I`m a surgeon, you have nothing for me to cut out.
but your veins/arteries and things are furred up from your toes to mid calf

Just a fact of life for some
I use Woolie Boolies, Merino wool based socks. Got them from online bike shop(s)
My favourites in the keep warm range are good old ALDI "walking"? socks
range of colours and loads cheaper than the bullies🙄
I wear those Nordic type slipper/boots around the house this time of year
keeps my ankles warmer than slippers

Tejbat, if your problem is furred up arteries, there is surgery that can help... my ex-husband recently had an extra long stent inserted the whole length of his leg to improve circulation. That's a bit drastic if the only symptom is cold feet, but there was also a lot of pain on walking in his case. He's not diabetic.

Thanks for all the input / replies.... If it is down to better control of BG, I shouldn't really complain !!

Will soldier on - thanks for the suggestions / recommendations, as always !

Helen
