Hi all hope you all are doing fine, now since I have had to change my diet, I seem to be more hungry after meals.
I end up having some wheatabix before I go to bed at night, to tide me over.
is this normal?

The aching hunger does go away eventually when you get used to less/different food. I would suggest something protein-based for your night time snack - maybe a roast chicken leg or some crustless quiche. Give it a go and see how it works for you.

Hi Luckysnoop I am like that but I am still getting used to my diet, not been to see diabetic dietician yet don't know where my appointment has got to they are taking ages but have got appointment with diabetic nurse next week at our doctors for some help with food.
I do make the crustless quiche that LeeLee is on about and its gorgeous and tasty we did one at the weekend with onions, bacon and chestnut mushrooms in and it was best one yet.
I usually have a couple of ryvitas at 9pm with some laughing cow light cheese spread on them this helps me sometimes.

I just think it takes a little time to get used to. I changed my diet about six weeks ago. Before I used to be hungry all the time. Now I hardly ever am!

I think that there is not a problem having a ( HEALTHY SNACK ) if you are hungry and trying to lose weight etc....I found having a snack then a big glass of water helps me when I still feel very hungry....it is hard but as leelee says it does get better....chin up and stick with it....it will be worth the hard work in the end. 🙂

Thanks, I have been told just to change my diet so it is healthier, I am not trying to loose any weight, I am not over weight! so will see. I do try and take the healthy option all the time when snacking 🙂

I find that snacking on nuts helps me with my hunger pangs. They are low carb and some, especially walnuts, are very good for you 🙂 Alternatively, cheese is good, or for something sweet sugar-free jelly does the job! Cheese and nuts are relatively high calorie, but if you do not have weight concerns then they are fine as they keep you satisfied longer than carby snacks and have little effect on your blood sugar levels 🙂

I would recommend looking at the GL diet for some good ideas of the best things to eat that will have the slowest and steadiest impact on you blood sugar levels, and is therefore a healthy diet for people with diabetes. The GL Diet for Dummies is a good introduction 🙂

It annoys me when doctors and nurses tell you to eat 'healthily', but don't warn you that a lot of what is marketed as'healthy' could in fact be harmful by raising your levels excessively. For example, fruit contains a lot of sugar, and a lot of low fat products also contain a lot of sugar. There has long been a myth that fat is unhealthy, but that is now being challenged and carbs are being seen as the chief suspect.

eating to control B G Levels

Really its a tough one. Eating and not wanting High Blood sugar levels. I could be really strict and only eat hardly any carbs. For instance cheese eggs smoked salmon, chicken etc. However i try to eat as near normal as poss with the carb book which is only a rough guide. I suppose it helps mindwise. I inject what i think right amount of insulin for food consumed. I do feel let down when i get it wrong. My consultant feels i could relax tight control and 8 9s would not concern him. Obviously thats for me and i would not want any forum members to think thats o k cos of me. Im sure they wouldent anyway. A cheese a friend suggested Wyke it can be ordered on internet. i got 3 slabs ?12 it is expensive hardly any fat though. Hope this could be of some help 🙂
