Well this morning I had a text saying appointment at 5.15pm, I thought it must have been the appointment with my doctor which actually turned out to be the 18th of this month....Dohhh!!!

So it was actually a phone call from my db nurse...anyway I told here was not happy with test strips and was told not a problem I can have as many as I need for now!!!...well this is a complete reverse decision from the last time I spoke to her, I also said my insulin is not on repeat which she then put on repeat prescription and said I have done you a prescription to pick up for more strips and insulin....so for now I have lots of strips....good news all in all...but I will see my doctor on the 18th and try to get more on repeat rather than have to request ever bloody week.

She asked how I was doing and said with regret that within the last 2 days they have creped back up to the 19ish.....which I'm gutted...I have done nothing different but they have just climed...so up my insulin again....I really thought I had cracked it and feel like I have let my self down even tho I have done nothing different.

I truly thought I had done it, and now feel embarrassed on this forum as I said I had cracked it....I just want consistency within my levels.

I feel so much better and so much happier but can't feel a ickle bit let down as I have worked so hard to keep my levels down.

I have an appointment to see my dn this Friday so we can go over my bg numbers and she wants to show me a few meters so I can choose which one is better for and she said I can have 2 one for work and one for home...so not a bad out come in my eyes.

Maybe this is the start to finally being listen to...ok I have gone on way to much cheers for reading folks!!.....all in all my chin is up :D

Lots of good news there Ant, great to hear! 🙂 But please, don't ever feel embarrassed by what is happening with your levels! This is a tough nut to crack and there will always be times when things don't work out, often when you least expect it. The aim is not perfection - which only really comes from a fully working pancreas - but to try and get as close as you can as often as you can.

Is it possible that your insulin might have got too warm or cold? This can sometimes stop it working properly, and is something to look out for if ever you start to get unexpected readings. Sometimes also, we can be fighting off an infection that we don't yet have any symptoms for - sometimes you may never develop symptoms, but the only evidence is in higher than expected blood sugar readings. Don't lose heart and don't feel you have let anyone down - you can only do your best, and that is exactly what you have been doing 🙂

hi ant
I have been a diabetic since 1995 (diagnosed aged 19) and I'm still learning new things all the time. Please don't beat yourself up about it. Diabetes is forever changing, there is no such thing as "I've cracked it - now everything will be cool" - it just doesn't work that way. We all react to things differently so there is no blanket approach. There are so many variables at play which WILL affect your levels. the best thing you can do is to do your best, stay positive and when you get an unexpected reading try to figure out why it happened so you can learn for next time.

You're doing a great job, when you get an unexpected reading try to work with your diabetes not against it!!!! It's tough but so worth it !

Sounds like Nursie has turned a corner - even if you're still halfway round the bend! Keep at it, you WILL get there. 😉

Thank you for your support Alan :0)

I think because I was getting good numbers I really thought I had done it!

It is not as easy as I might have thought....i.e insulin = done!!

So much to learn 🙂

I hope so leelee...and I will not let it beat me!

One lesson learned today.....One long journey ahead!! 🙂

I can understand how frustrated you must feel, but the big thing is that you say that you are feeling better, so that is great! Also sounds as though you have tamed your dn, well done. As others have said it is not easy and you have had a bad start but I hope that you will stay positive and get there. Don't let it get you down, keep smiling you have already come a long way, be gentle with yourself.

Wow what a turn around, at last getting somewhere. 🙂 🙂 🙂 Have you given any thought to what meters you think would help if you get to make the choice.

I have no idea to be honest Alan!!

Well at the moment I use a nexus gluco RX

But I was given that second hand accu check active which to be honest was better than my nexus.....the thing is with the nexus you have to get enough blood so it slips into this tiny gap....where the accu check you just blob on what ever blood you have onto it and done!!

So for me I think the accu check is for me....as I now have to use this for the rest life I think this is the way forward.....it is nice that she said I could choose from all of there meters....I actually feel happy that now I can decided rather than be told.
Happy Days :D

The other Alan and myself use the Bayer contour next usb meters which is a very good meter, and its also supported by good free software.

The other meter I use is the Accu Chek mobile which is great especially when out and about, the main weakness of this meter is the built in software is basic and you have to buy the full Accu Chek software if you are keen on doing saving reports.

Both these meters are excellent, and both companies I have found have very good c/s.

Most up to date meters functions with only the tiniest amount of blood. My current Insulinx does and so, apparently, does the Contour thingy I've been offered. Then too, the Insulinx and Contour both interface with computers very easily and have some nice reporting functions which can help if ammunition is needed with the professionals. If strip cost isn't going to be an issue I'd go for one of them. I've had Abbott's meters since Dx and their support has always been excellent.

Sounds to me like that nurse has taken in what you said last time and done some reading, perhaps that's why she's done a u-turn. Not before time.

Forgot about the insulinx which as Alison says is another very good meter and if you change to other types of insulin has a calculator to help work out the dose required it does use the smallest amount of blood as well.

Hi Ant. I know just how you feel. My levels have been really good for months, yet today I've got 15's and keytones. I've done 2 set changes and insulin changes. I am drinking loads and waiting to see what happens.

You'll get there Ant, remember this is a marathon not a sprint. I know high levels are disappointing. Well done on the test strips, thats a battle in itself won!

Were you going to bed with high levels?

I think you should seriously think about a different regime with your insulin, yes it means doubling the amount of injections a day but it may give you so much more flexibility plus you can easily correct higher than desired readings without buggering up the rest of your day

Thanks for the advice I will hopefully have a good result Friday! And I think maybe she has been looking at my posts lol ;0)

Yep bed time daytime levels all over the place so I will just keep increasing insulin every 3 days :0)

Before reDx 'they' had me on Gliclazide as well and I had similar issues. My numbers were up and down like a yo-yo and it really wiped me out, especially the hypos, some of which were dangerously low. It was exhausting and scary. I reckon it would be worth talking to your doctor about alternatives, especially as they seem to be listening to you now.
