I am soooo angry with my dn!!!!

I spoke to my dn today and she asked for my last 3 day bg levels, I told her from start to finish and I was told why am I testing so much?

I was shocked! she was not happy that I test so much! I said I am not!! she said in short you only need to test morning evening and if I feel odd!! I said but my levels are coming down and I feel I need to test before food and after and before riding my bike as the law needs me to, in short I am a type 2 on minimum insulin twice a day so I only need to check morning and evening or if I feel odd!! well I said I have not been feeling myself hence testing though out the day.

This whole bloody test strip thing is really getting me down and im starting to get cheesed off!!

This morning I tested before leaving work which left me 1 strip so I did not inject because I was worried going to low and not being able to test after food.

She has given me another 50 strips but then in all the chaos today I forgot to bring my meter home so once again I will not inject tonight as I have no way of testing, im so bloody cheesed of!!! 😡

Why put me on insulin if I can only have 50 strips a month? there is no point!!

I am seeing my doctor 18th of September so I will tell him what I think of this situation and in the mean time I am going to write a letter to my doctor demanding to have more strips because this is just getting out of hand.

Why should I have to worry about going low because they are penny pinching? im so angry with them 😡

I do not like confrontation but I will be stating in my letter how can I safely inject if I do not have complete control over what my levels are doing from one point to the other?

In my eyes I am injecting something that could be lethal to me if I cannot see what my levels are doing....im so bloody cross!!

But I am going to use this anger to get things done now...it's just not right! 😡

OMG! I'm glad you're doing something positive with your fully justified anger. Give 'em hell, and demand a referral to a specialist.

You have the right to be angry the DN is putting you and your driving licence at risk and I would be firing off a letter at least before your next appointment with the GP or make another one with the GP ASAP even if its just to speak to them to speak him / her to get the strip problem sorted out.

Your DN is not on this planet limiting you to 50 strips a month, that's closer to what you need a week.

I would also buy a second meter as a spare, meter is around ?7 on amazon + any P&P, which you can leave one at home and one at work or carry with you, though the shortage of strips might give you some problems with this, as you would need to have strips with each meter.

As you said to me you need to change your DN / doctor for a better one if you can find one. :D :D

It is a no brainer!! 31 days in a month 50 strips a month? ermmm HELLO!!

I would say that this is bordering on negligence. I would say, do not deal with this woman any more and now that you're all fired up demand to be referred to a consultant-led clinic, so you have access to FULLY TRAINED DSNs and someone who lives in the real world. As I have said before you may even have been misdiagnosed, given the apparent lack of knowledge shown by these people. As a Type 1 you would probably get access to better care (sad, but often true).

Who are you writing the letter to? I would go so far as to write to your MP and the CCG.

You're absolutely right, totally unnecessary :( That woman should not be allowed near people on insulin, I would like to know what training she has had, and when she received it (20 years ago perhaps, so she has forgotten most of it?) 😡

That's absolutely disgraceful Pav, 50 strips a month is nowhere near enough for any diabetic, never mind one in your position. I'm glad you're writing the letter, but I agree with Alan that you should also demand a referral to a consultant led clinic. In the meantime, I hope your doctor supports you when you get to see him.

PS. My surgery's website gives the qualifications of every member of the medical team, it might be worth a look to see if yours does too.

Exactly alan!!! it makes me not want to take insulin! because if I can't test how the hell am I to control my insulin? 😡

Just to let you no it's not pav 😉

Makes me wonder if she or one of her loved one's had to take insulin as a so called TYPE 2!!

Would she still only prescribe 50 strips a month? I think bloody not!! 😡

As the nurse says to test before each injection, morning and evening, and any time you feel funny, that would be 62+ test strips even by her reckoning, so why is she sticking to 50?!!!

Hope you get this sorted quickly.

All together now....

AaaaaaaaaaaaaagggggggggggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Feel better?

This has been my whole battle from start!! she is obviously not in the real world!!

More to the point I am fed up reading thread after thread about t2 not been able to have test strips for something so serious?

Even if you only take tablets why should you not be able to have test strips?

You are testing to see what actually makes you have spikes etc?

Today has made me think this is not on!! and it has to change, not just for me but for all diabetics whether your type 1 or 2...the point is strips saves lives and helps to continue a healthy life style and peace of mind!

We all need to get together and try something to get the governments attention!! I do not no how......so any idea's?

I am up for it are you?

I can pretend to be any one :D :D :D

You should have a few more ideas what to put in your letter, and maybe copy the letter to the local area health authority or who ever has control over the DN / practice.

Head against a brick wall comes to mind. That DN needs to go back to school or maybe attend a course on how to treat diabetics.
