Type 2 strip war

In mid-December it was down from 86 to 48 (this had taken four months). I am only due for an HbA1c on an annual basis, so this one in September is to placate me. Feeling rather cross as I have worked very hard to get it down and I do find testing helps, and the results are important to me. Being sensible I can get what I need and just carry on. They would have been delighted to dish out Metformin, statins etc which probably cost a lot more. It is crazy. At present I feel like never going to the doctor again and just looking after myself. I hate being treated like an obsessive idiot.

And so you should, it is disgraceful to suggest such a thing when all you are doing is (very successfully!) managing a very difficult condition. As long as each test is helping to inform you about your diabetes so that you can take action, then it cannot be regarded as 'obsessive'. I wonder how they regard people who have Continuous Glucose Monitors then? They test every 2-5 minutes! I am certain that if test strips were 50p a tub then they would be pushing you to test regularly. 🙄

i've emailed Northie a link to the advocacy pack to see if it can be put as a sticky anywhere

Thank you to those who have signed the petition. I had hoped to get to 300 sigs but I am putting a date on it now of End Aug. I have no axe to grind since I am T1 and not limited in scripts but I so feel for T2s who cannot get strips because I know how important they are to manage the condition.

No one is an obsessive idiot and every motivated T2 should be able to test. Happydog you are not alone!

Petition signed. I recently noticed that my GP reduced my Test strips from 200 to 100. When I informed the GP located Pharmacist that i'd asked for 200 he told me "you could ask for a Ferrari it doesn't mean you'll get it"

I changed pharmacist.

Test strips are the main reason I changed my diet as I could see the difference certain foods had on my body and the realization that for me red wine was better than Lager.

Thank you to everyone who has given me support. I'll try and get some more signatures as I think that this is an important issue. I am feeling better today and I already know that there is scant help from my doctor etc except if you want tablets and advice on a high carbohydrate diet, (The DN suggested 60% carbohydrate and 5 pieces of fruit a day, a slice of cake and two bars of chocolate a week.) I'll go for the HbA1c in September as that is useful, but otherwise keep away and carry on as I am. Thank you for listening to my grumbles, it helps to get it out. 🙂

Signed.

I have a feeling that this isn't going to go away any time soon but the quicker it does the better.

I'm not sure which is worst, the sheer arrogance of the nurse or the sheer ignorance she displays. Makes my blood boil. Most of the so called "diabetic nurses" attached to GP's surgeries have only had the most basic education about diabetes.

I would extend that to include some doctors, one cut my meds down and then told to eat more and raise my HbA1c levels. I would gain weight, need to loose around 15 kgs as it is and now my tea time BS spikes are rising already. 😡 😡 😡

Sad innit?
