Crikey 2 posts under 2 hours!!! 😱
Ok so injected 5.30pm this evening had a shower ate at 6.00pm and sat there in my shorts on the sofa as I have been feeling very hot last few days think it's due to being ill.
I stood up and this misses said omg your tummy! im full of big bruises....I have a feeling that is why it is hurting more to inject....oh and my backside is all bruised, im not being funny but is this normal? I can't go on like this :(
It now hurts when I inject and yes I rotate and am using 4mm needless so very fine, but im full of bruises no wonder it hurts to inject!...im very tempted just to ask to be put back on tabs! as since being on insulin not much fun.

I bruised quite a bit when I first started injecting, but after a while it didn't seem to happen much at all. Are you pinching up the flesh before injecting?

I'm a bruiser. Had them all over when I was on MDI.

I think if you're prone to them there's not much you can do. :(

However, not every jab gave me a bruise, I think if you knick a capillary or something is what ends up in a bruise.

Hope you can get some advice on how to cut down on getting them.

I was told to massage the area, which I do then don't tense which I don't, then inject!
But nothing about pinching the flesh, I no I may come across over the top but the last 2 weeks have not been easy, and in my mind I would rather take pills than this.

I know it's been tough for you, but things will get easier - even mundane - in time. Honest! 🙂 And the big difference of course is that the insulin is starting to work for you, the pills didn't.

I know it's difficult but you need the insulin to get your BGs under control. The effects of high BGs for too long are far worse than bruises. I am sympathetic but learnt to stop worrying about the marks a long while ago - although I will comment on them when I want sympathy from OH🙂. Guess I've got used to it because I've had injections since I was 2

It's just not easy.
But I do understand.

And we understand how you are feeling too Ant. It's a big, big thing to have to adapt to, but just think back to how you felt when you got that 8 the other day, and hopefully that will help to motivate you 🙂

we do understand Ant but you are going to feel so much better when the majority of your results are in single figures🙂 we are here for you

Yes you are right...I was over the moon, ( DEEP BREATH )

There are so worse of than me, I just want to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I still get the odd bruise and sometimes a bleeder, if I hit a small vein. However, I am using 5mm needles as well.

One thing you could try is holding an ice cube to the skin for a few seconds before injecting, this should not only make it slightly numb and therefore less uncomfortable but should also cause the blood vessels to contract and shrink away from the surface so less chance of nicking one and bleeding/bruising.

Also, are you going in gently or quickly? If you are jabbing it in quickly that could also cause more bruising

That's a really good idea 🙂......sorter jab it in to get it over and done with, but I love the ice cube trick will try it this morning 🙂

If all goes well tonight, might be in the same learning curve as you with the injections. :D

I have had to revert to the 12mm needles that I brought with me to Spain 8 years ago, until then I was using 8mm needles. Because they are difficult to get hold of - any size - I was using them over and over again until I started to bruise and then I changed to a new needle. One of the posters here has generously sent me a box of needles that are no longer required by them but they have not yet arrived. I do find that my stomach is more prone to bruising than my upper arms, thighs or buttocks so I only use that site when I am in a restaurant - it's so easy to lift up your shirt and inject without anyone noticing.

I so would rather take tabs so much easier, but I hope all goes well for you pav 🙂

Going of what Alan said about victoza, hope he is right 🙂in that it stimulates the production of insulin as and when needed. Also The tablets are ok, but there's no control over the insulin production.

As I understand it (and I'm no expert!) the two drugs work quite differently. Gliclizide will continue to stimulate the pancreas to produce insulin, whereas Victoza (and other incretins) stop this stimulation when glucose concentrations are normal, so less chance of a hypo, and less insulin usually. Less insulin can mean less weight gain, since it will store excess glucose as fat if it is available.

I can eat the same thing one day and the same the next and have totally different levels. This morning the usual 4.6 now its 10.3 (should be in the 7.0's or low 8.0's.

There's not much leeway in what I can eat, need to eat to the tablets (or get that feeling), If I take less tablets Blood sugars go sky high. If I have more tablets to help with the highs I would be in hypo city at bed time.

Also need to prevent any gain in weight, If I gain weight bang goes my driving licence in the worst case, due to another illness as weight gain can cause problems with it. As long as my weight stays stable or come down the hospital are happy.

Well I hope you receive them soon....and the jelly babies 🙂
