Six people with Type 2 put on an extreme diet for 8 weeks.
I didn't like the programme I'm afraidIf they had only spent 5 minutes explaining that weight wasn't the ONLY factor in getting Type 2 under control then maybe I would have felt better about it. The implication was that anyone with Type 2 could 'reverse' it if only they lost weight, which isn't true. There was also a lot of scaremongering statistics that aren't helpful to people who have diabetes (whatever type, particularly the pregnancy stats), and there was quite a heavy message about how burdensome people with diabetes are to the NHS, just to slap on a bit of extra guilt.
Three people were on a shakes-only 800 calorie diet, the other three had 1600 calories of healthy food (lots of veg, limited carbs).I never saw it but if it's one of those diets based on "meal replacements" such as shakes then I suspect it's not really solving the problem- people need to be re educated and taught about nutrition and how to prepare diabetes and weight friendly meals- i.e. extreme caution with carbs, heavy on vegetables/ salad and lean protein. I would assume these type of meal replacements are expensive anyhow
