Well my double appointment with the specialist nurse at my gp was fun.

Me - please can I change my 8mm needles to 5mm
Nurse - arghh I can't do that (she rings another nurse to ask - neither knew)

Me - please can you put ketone sticks, syringes (they are my back up), multiclix lancets & hayfever pills back on my repeat
Nurse - why do you want them back on?
Me - explains while thinking ffs

I said that I'm going on DAFNE in June & pump 3 September.

I was told at least you'll have better control!! (My control is good apart from when I'm ill) & did I really need to add all that onto my script!

I'm going to quit law & become a gp

Those appointments are always fun. Also think ffs, when responding to their silly questions lol. You'd think they would understand why we need those things.

I'm looking at the syringes I asked for, she meant to give me 10 but have 100!!
And they are just back ups!

I swear people think I'm a drug dealer!

Make sure they are insulin syringes! 🙂

I had my prescription review this morning - no problems with anything 🙂 I wish everyone could have a GP like mine! 🙂

Yes they defo are insulin syringes.

They still want me to transfer my care to their clinic as they said I don't need a consultant to manage it

Is the clinic run by the same people? I ask because my GP suggested that I attend the clinic at the practice rather than the hospital and I declined. Then the hospital pulled the rug from under me by closing the clinic, so I went back to my GP and asked her to refer me to a new one. It turned out that the clinic at the practice was led by a consultant and leading light of diabetes in Southampton, and not the 'diabetes aware' nurse and GPSI I thought it would be! 🙂

No the clinic is run by a nurse who specializes in T2.

I'd rather stop at hospital as I have a good relationship with my consultant & the DSN's there.

A point I should of made is, when I mentioned I was going on the pump I was told they don't have any pump users at the surgery so do I want to be on my own with no one who knows what to do?

Maybe you could write a (multi-choice) test paper and give it to them to complete and say that you will only consider transferring your care if they can pass the test? :D

OH? You've decided you like the shorter needles Laura?

Yeah, I think it's getting into my system better & I'm not bleeding or bruising which is a plus & I can use more of my upper leg without pain

How happy it is that you were able to post here and get some advice, you would have given away those short needles otherwise! Great news Laura!

I know, I don't think ill use the 4mm I have tho.
I kinda felt awkward for asking for them to be changed given I'm going on the pump but as strange as it might sound when I inject pre meal I feel brighter from the insulin so figured its down to a shorter length & I needed needles so thought 5mm would be better.

And now I'm rambling....

So TRY the 4mm and see! You were surprised by the 5mm,

Every day is a new adventure!
