I am Type 1 Diabetic & do 4 injections a day and regularly test my sugar level, before I do each jab & before I drive & if I feel either a bit high or low in between so can do as many as 8 tests a day but I'm having trouble getting extra test strips from my Doctors, I get 150 a month which only gives me about 5 tests a day, which I feel isn't enough. I had to fight to get 150, they used to only give me 100 and I don't know what to do or who to speak to

Hi denzle.

Sorry to hear you are having this problem, I've recently been in the same boat.

I rang DUK who were a huge help but my DSN had to intervene on my behalf & speak to my gp who increased my 50 strips a month to 150 a month.

I hope you get this resolved

Hello...

My 'diabetic specialist' nurse at our surgery had an attempt at rationing my test strips, despite my explaining the need / logic (she actually more or less accused me of running around testing other people lol 🙄). I wrote to my MP asking whether consumables were now being rationed for type 1s, she in turn asked the health sec'y & result was a letter from the pct confirming that strips should not be rationed & strangely enough no problems since. Possinly the nuclear option, but I was getting tired of the tussles... Best of luck, don't let them grind you down. 🙂

You wrote to your MP???? Go twitchy!!
But on the pump I thought you needed more strips?
Stupid nurse

Don't get me started lol...

The gp's are great, but even they hadn't seen a pump before...at least they were keen to learn about it though, she was a bit more, er set in her ways! 😉

I have an appointment with the diabetes specialist nurse at the gp's on Thursday to go through my repeat prescription & explain why I want a specialist to deal with my diabetes than them. I bet it'll be fun

If you've got one of the diabetes textbooks or a duk leaflet that shows the logic behind our need to test take it along - somehow the printed word has more sway lol. Maybe print off the dvla advice about testing & driving too? Best of luck!

I've got my material from when I was going to do battle last time.

I can't get any ketone sticks til Thursday as the docs have taken them off my repeat so the fact I'm ill & my bloods are high I can't check my levels :(
