Not much to add (I'm pregnant so blaming all current mood swings on that) but just wanted to say: I love the fiddlers elbow simile. Sounds like I should have heard it before but I hadn't. Going to steal it (hopefully IRS blood sugars are ok tonight so you won't be cross with me for that) :0)

That sounds savage! you have had it bad!! My lowest so far has been 3.2 and that's more than low enough! I hope I never experience what you have!..fairplay for coming out the other side 😉

So how much insulin are you on and how often? At the moment I inject twice a day and my units of Humilin have been dropped from 8 units in the morning to 5 because I seem to be hypo an hour before lunch!! I/m on 4 units in the evening!

I hope I'm not being to intrusive?!

haha well I'm glad that weird little saying will get some use, you steal away 🙂

Take it this is for me?
3 injections of novo rapid, 1 unit to 10 grams of carbs & 40 units of glargine.

Don't get me wrong but in my current mood, I hate being diabetic. It feels like me the person doesn't exist, it's all about the diabetic

I find its the speed in which I drop or rise that effects me! Or if i have prolonged high sugars. Now if I start getting snappy with anyone in the house or find I cant tolerate silly things or people are annoying me for no real reason,... ill test!

I feel your pain!! As much as people say, dont let it control your life! The reality is that it does control your life and everything you do!

Im getting used to the diabetic life! however im still producing insulin. so I know that all i have to do is wait for the day I totally stop producing my own, and that is when I have to come to grips with it all over again!! 😱

My honeymoon period was short - as my pancreas packed in after 2 weeks of producing.
You'll be fine, if not you can always ask for help here

Sounds like your either not getting enough carbs or too much insulin on the regime your on, but with your 1.5 type it msut be really difficult to make the call!..

Im the same..I feel sorry for the dog when Im like it, if he like gets in way I cant help but shout and properly gett in a right huff. If ever im acting like that the mrs always questions my blood sugars.. It also comes in as an excellent excuse if your just having a sh*t day!!

Ye being type 1.5 is a bit odd! Somedays I dont know if I am coming or going or doing things right or wrong!! I just wish my pancreas would just make up its mind!lol

haha and ye it does come in useful as an excuse sometimes!.....not that I use it all that often! 😉

Just thinking, is it a mixed insulin you are on given that you are having it just twice a day? That being so, you do need to snack between meals to keep up with the waves of insulin as they hit. My lad is on a mix in the mornings, but was never told to eat on a fixed regime like people used to be told in the 'old days' but he is one to pick at his lunchbox mid morning anyway. When young children are put on a mix though they are told to have a snack between each main meal. Might be worth a try if you can face eating a little something - a cereal bar for instance - between meals.

Thinking back, when I was first diagnosed, I was on the old system of 2 injections a day via syringes & I had to snack coz I kept crashing.

Snacking might help you

Humulin I is an intermediate insulin, so it's not mixed - more like a basal insulin I believe. I'd be interested to know what a full day's tests show for you Kev i.e. waking, 2 hours post-breakfast, pre-lunch, 2 hours post-lunch etc., plus any other tests you might feel you need e.g. if you feel hypo. This should give a good picture of how you are reacting both to the insulin and the food you eat, and how well-matched they are through the day.

I would be more than happy to conduct a test and let you know the results 🙂

Good man! I'm intrigued. I was put straight on to basal/bolus insulin i.e. a slow-acting insulin for my background needs and a fast-acting for my food. Gradually I lowered my background dose until in April last year I stopped needing it altogether (originally on 20 units lantus!). I just take insulin to cover the carbs in my food now. My consultant thinks it's unusual but isn't surprised by anything where diabetes is concerned!

What some doctors/nurses don't seem to understand is that it is more like a spectrum of diseases, not just two or three definite types, and it;s interesting to know how different people get on with different regimes because that can be helpful when someone joins here with similar problems - they then have someone to compare notes with 🙂

I have just tested again and will continue to do so throughout the day!! so I should have some info for you soon 🙂 it would be great to understand more about what is going on!! and of course as you say if it can help others then I am more than up for that!! 🙂

The doctors and nurses appear to be baffled by me!! Im under 40 and I weigh in at 10 stone 4!! so I dont fall into the catergory of type 2 and I dont beleive anyone in my family has ever hade type 1!!.....I always knew I was different!!lol
