I have a bug at the moment and am feeling really unwell, tight chest, feaverish, nauseous, very tired and thoroughly wretched. BG is way up 10 before any food today. I know this is to be expected. How long will it take to get it back to a better result? Is it OK to take ibuprofen? I ache everywhere. I don't feel hungry but should I try to eat? Hope these aren't stupid questions.

It really depends on the bug and how long it lasts. As for Ibuprofen, you should be OK with that provided you aren't taking other meds that clash with it. Check the leaflet in the box to be sure. I hope you feel better soon.

I'd check with pharmacist before taking ibuprofen, but it is probably OK.

If you don't feel like eating much try something light like soup or toast, and keep taking your medication if you're able to.

If you don't feel any better in two or three days see a doctor or get advice, although there are loads of bugs doing the rounds, most of them seem to last two or three days then go.

I hope you feel better soon.

Hi I started off thinking I had a wee bug. This started off last Wednesday when I went for my 1st official appointment with the diabetic nurse. By Saturday I was feeling wretched too. By Tuesday I thought to myself I still feel just as awful and as my surgery was closed Tuesday I phoned NHS 24 who referred me to our local GP out of hours clinic. The doctor there gave me antibiotics and told me I have a viral infection with a secondary infection. She explained the secondary infection is probably due to being diabetic and having a weakened immune system. I expected to be back at work days ago, instead of that I have been signed off till Monday. I try to eat too despite not feeling hungry but haven't eaten today yet. Look after yourself, keep warm and try to eat and if you are worried go and see your GP. Hope you feel better really soon. 🙂

Thank you for the information and for your good wishes. My boss phoned up today to ask when I would be back at work and asked if this was related to diabetes. (I have had two days off, yesterday and today in six years.) I told her that I'll try to be back tomorrow and that I don't think that there is a link between diabetes and what I have now. The family say I should stay off until after the weekend. Am beginning to to feel a bit better 🙂

My boss was really good. I have been off since last Thursday and signed off now till Monday. He said that if it was related to diabetes that this sickness spell may well be written off. We are only allowed 8 sick days a year. I'll be on 10 by Monday. :( I know I'll get a written warning from the bosses higher up. Problem being is if you're sick what can you do? If I went back to work too early I'd be sent home for being unfit for work. What can you do???
