Sorry Dory I was simplifying massively, 'cant burn' was shorthand for 'is unable to take the glucose molecules up into the cells and use them
to make energy (therefore they build up in the blood). but anyway it seems i was wrong: music&insulin was far from needing it explained let alone simplifying!! Glad they teach stuff useful to everyday life in schools these days, can't remember learning anything I used in GSCE science other than for higher education.

Hopefully successful dieters dont do it to such an extent as to end up with ketoacidosis or loss of useful muscle! I only mentioned it because of the anorexia problem reported in diabetic teenagers I.e not taking insulin to the avoid weight gain that IS associated with utilising sugars properly again in most type 1 s after starting insulin. It is worth being prepared for that tendency if you are very weight-conscious. Again, the person in questions seems far too well-researched and grounded to need it!

Anyway, I second whoever advised education of matching insulin to carbs eaten, that's a great point and enables you to eat as much or as little carbohydrate as you choose for your personal requiremens! - the one I know of is the DAPHNE course and my local health authority do these especially for teenagers - do Norfolk? It was also very useful re: how to manage taking insulin for sport and they definitely made my walking / running a lot more effective.

Anyway, love your fighting attitude Music&Insulin: more money for diabetes uk can only be a good thing and that's a helluva long way to swim: I can walk any distance but swimming? - again, respect. Let us know when we can sponsor you online!

I'm one of them people that have to know what my body is going through, I like to research everything I can about it, not only for me but for my friends and family that need to know. I also want to become a volunteer for Diabetes UK so being fact up is never a bad thing! Don't get me wrong, this is the only thing I have ever used in my school life haha!

I was 'threatened' in a way with ketoacidosis when I was first diagnosed, as I didn't go to the doctors for a month after the symptoms started as I thought I just had a bug! They were surprised I wasn't well on my way to getting it, but my keytones were fine!

I doubt I will ever become anerexic! If anything I had an eating problem beforw I was diagnosed, but being diagnosed was the kick start I needed to get healthy and eat properly..I could go 2 days without eating and think nothing of it.

I'll look into the courses, thank you 🙂

Haha thank you! I have never been a strong swimmer, or runner for that fact, so it is a huge challenge, but the bigger the challenge hopefully the more money that will be raised! Thought I would start off with swimming, as I have a phobia of water on my face that I want to over come, although I am doing the London Marathon around 2014 too! Determined to get fit and raise money at the same time, part of my training for the swim is doing the Race For Life for Cancer Research!

My JustGiving page is up now, and there is a facebook group available too if you anyone wants a link, just in case I forget to post anything on here! The only thing Iam sure of at the moment is that I am doing it, but waiting for replies from Diabetes UK and my local swimming pool now! http://www.justgiving.com/Jaymie-22mileswim

Thank you🙂
