I've always bought into the whole 'type 1 diabetics don't need to eat any differently from the next person, although everyone should eat healthily' thing. I have a low HcA1c and eat chocolate, trifle, cake, fruit fairly often. This does tend to upset people: Even my own Dad asked me if I was allowed chocolate the other day: I was the only one who didn't get chocolates from Dad for Christmas because he couldn't remember if I could eat them!
I have given up swigging fruit juice from the bottle, because that makes me spike and I do restrict fruit juice now. But otherwise, I have good control and enjoy food ( though knowing the carbs for counting takes the fun
Out a little bit).
All this time IVe been preaching the 'of course I can! Type 1s can eat normally!' message.
Looking at posts on here recently though, I'm beginning to wondr if ive got it wrong.... Those type 1s who do restrict your diets, is it for 'healthy eating' reasons or is it because you are diabetic? Am I missing something?
I Should add that apart from the srog I'm not overweight
Those of you who do
