Hi Ade, well done on everything you have achieved! Sounds like you are doing all the right things and reaping the benefits, so that's great news. Your meter readings are excellent! It is certainly possible that you may need to reduce your medication - what are you currently taking? I would say that if the good numbers continue it would be worth booking an appointment with your GP to discuss what ' the New You' should be taking. Certainly all the exercise, the weight loss and the changes to your diet are helping to bring your blood sugar levels right under control 🙂

With low readings below 4.0 it's probably worth having a small snack, like a digestive biscuit or two.

Yay, well done you! Some of us T2s can reduce/come off drugs once the effect of weight loss kicks in. I'm already off one of the blood pressure drugs (stopped after 6months with SW and a loss of 4 st). Sugars were on target at my last review. Hoping to reduce or stop the Metformin at my next review, but not holding my breath! Good luck, and keep up the good work.

Hi northener im taking 80mg Gliclacide twice a day plus 3 850mg meformin the GP would probaly want to perform another blood test to check the readings for himself.I want to loose more weight before I goback to the drs to make sure I get good results if I can

In that case, I would definitely have a snack if your levels fall below 4.0 as gliclizide can cause you to fall lower. I would imagine that this would be the drug that would be reduced first. Also, I can't remember if this has been mentioned before, but if you are on gliclizide and you drive then your GP must prescribe you testing strips as you need to be able to test prior to driving that you are at a safe level to do so - if you do not then I believe you may be breaking the law. Have a read of the following link:

http://www.npc.nhs.uk/rapidreview/?p=4937

The heading 'MANAGED BY TABLETS WHICH CARRY A RISK OF INDUCING HYPOGLYCAEMIA. THIS INCLUDES SULFONYLUREAS AND GLINIDES' applies to gliclizide.

yes i get the strips off my gp but i bought the metermyself could of got that prescribed to

very true but after reading the great postson this forum I wanted a meter im determined to loose another couple of stone before I go back to the drs if i could come off medication that would be a huge achievement for myself.🙂LeeLee you have done very well you must feel so proud.😉

Ade, don't wait too long if you regularly start getting low numbers as it can be dangerous to take too much medication for your requirements - a bit like me injecting too much insulin would be dangerous. Keep an eye on your readings and if you start getting a few below 4.0 then whatever your weight loss, see your GP 🙂

I'll be shouting from the rooftops if I ever get to a 'healthy' BMI of 25 or less. My worst ever was 53, it was 46 when I re-joined SW last April and I'm now on 34. I'm still classed as 'obese' but another 1.5 stone and I'll just be 'overweight'. Trying to do that before Easter, so 11 weeks to go!

I think the reason I haven't been prescribed a meter is that at present I am able to get my sugar under control when I make the effort to lose weight and eat well. If my next review is bad despite my efforts I will push for one. Meanwhile, SW and this forum have worked wonders.

Ade, is it time you took a new avatar pic ?

I know it's time I did, but I really liked the look of me in the one I use elsewhere on the interwebnetthingy LOL
