Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi,

As a Diabetic myself, I chose to research into Diabetic health beliefs and how this effects a Diabetic's well-being and medication adherence for my undergraduate research. I believe it touches upon a extremely important aspect of Diabetes control, fear of hypoglycemia, which is often neglected to be taken into consideration by doctors. While investigating this, health psychologists I had been in touch with expressed their interest and stated their wish to know the final results. My hope is that this study will go on help the future development of Diabetic care.

So do this, I have produced a survey which has received full ethical approval based on the BPS guidelines. I would be extremely grateful for anyone to take some time out of their day to complete this. It should take no longer than 5-10 minutes.

Please follow this url for more information and to take part:

Many thanks,
Rebecca.

The questions aren't directly related to hypos mostly and they are degrees of agreement eg and this isn't one of them ! - 'I fear hypos' - you have a range from 'Strongly disagree' through to 'Strongly agree'. You'd just click on 'Strongly disagree'.

I mean some of the Qs are things like Have you ever avoided going out? and yes I have if I decide I don't want to see the people cos I can't be arsed with them after all at the last minute, or when I got a bit agoraphobic - that came with the panic attacks when I was under work stress - but neither was related in the slightest to having hypos - and the survey doesn't ask you if it was!

Done it! The diet & exercise questions were a bit embarrassing straight after Christmas though!! 'on how many of the past 7 days have you eaten rich/fatty foods / not exercised etc'...er, all, in combination - it's Christmas after all! :D :D Might skew the results a tad... 😱

Haha Twitchy - that's just what I thought!

Hi Rebecca

Regards

Andy

Does anyone know anything about Surveygizmo the American firm hosting the qnaire ?

No but one assumes Rebecca's university has checked it out before letting their students loose on it?

Although you are right, most Uni's use Survey Monkey don't they?

Maybe they are on holiday - link isn't working.

Thanks for taking part everyone 🙂

I'm aware some of the questions aren't directly related, such as trophywench stated, the questions towards the start were meant to be answered with hypoglycemia in mind. Maybe I need to state that somewhere on the questionnaire, thank you for bringing that up.

And about the site hosting the survey, at the time it was currently suggested by my university as the best site. We were told other sites were no longer free or weren't as easy to use/get data off for analyzing.

Also, the questionnaire was created before Christmas. It wasn't until after Christmas I recieved ethical approval and realised what bad timing it was for diet questions :D
