Whoops, didn't read all the other posts, but seems i was right.

My Brother had surgery Wednesday night (our time) and all is well. They are very pleased with his op and I am told he will be coming home on Monday (Monday night here). Fingers crossed. Thank you all for your kind words. Its not very nice being half a world away.

Great to hear Austin! 🙂 I hope he makes a full and swift recovery 🙂

Great to hear the op went well 🙂 Hope that news has helped put your mind at ease, even though it's hard not being on hand at times like this. Fingers crossed he's up & about & back to normal soon. 🙂

Oh what a relief! Good.

Now I'll tell you about the 'cramp' LOL

After the op, hubby used to get cramp in the middle of the night especially, in that leg (the side the sciatic nerve was trapped) I used to routinely leap out of bed with him and massage the area but TBH it didn't seem to help. They routinely asked him how his cramp was at all the follow-ups. It did lessen eventually and when he went for his very last appt, some 2 years after the op, he got told for the very first time - it wasn't cramp and had never been cramp !

What it was, was the damaged nerve repairing itself !

In a similar way we hear that D's with neuropathy improve their BGs and bingo, start getting pain (pins & needles, whatever) in eg their previously numb feet, as their damaged nerves try to reconnect themselves to the 'Grid'.

I was disgusted - I'd lost all that sleep and I could have just grunted and turned over for all the good it did! LOL

The surgeon saw my brother today and said that his disc was the biggest one he has done in all his career. He needed a 7-8 inch incision instead of 3.The nerves were so compressed that it was amazing that he could even move his toes! My brother took a few steps today held up by 2 people but it is a struggle and to get in and out of bed. May be in hospital until Wed now. One week ago he had a bad back. Just shows you what can happen in so little time.

I'm really pleased that your brother is improving. I hope that he will be home soon.

Urrgghh. Could have been SO much worse if they'd left it.

Is all I can say!

Sorry to hear it happened Astin but pleased your brother is getting better.
