November is Pancreatic Awareness Month. (I know it isn't Nov yet!) People like me become diabetic due to pancreatic cancer.

In Dorset a group of us affected by Pancreatic Cancer are holding an 'auction of dreams' to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer Uk - who are raising awareness and funding research. Auction lots include:
  • lunch or dinner with Lord Julian Fellowes and Downton Abbey memorabilia
  • a day's individual wildlife photography tuition in Gloucestershire or Somerset
  • tea for 2 at the House of Commons
  • and lots more
The auction is happening on 2 Nov in Poundbury, Dorchester (Prince Charles' model village). There will also be a wonderful raffle. If you are interested in supporting us in any way, please let me know via this messageboard.

Thank you

I hope it's a huge success Susan 🙂

We made ?6000+ which was absolutely gobsmacking! Also to help raising awareness I agreed to be interviewed by my local paper ... to find my picture splashed across the front page!! my fifteen minutes of fame! 🙂

Marvellous! 🙂

I hope to able to get in somewhere how an insulin pump has improved my quality of life but the press seem much more interested in what I had removed. However I'll keep plugging away and hope to get diabetes a mention.

It would be good if you could as although you are inevitably diabetic, and with additional problems, I don't think the pump and the pancreas-less-ness are necessarily linked in HCP's minds (as I think you discovered!) 🙂

Chap on t'other forum has just had best part of his pancreas removed, he already had pancreatic probs because of the growth plus in the interim they've sorted out some thyroid probs that weren't helping - but it had managed to cope with pretending to be T2 and he had taken care beforehand to make sure he understood what the probable outcome would be. ie insulin. Surgeon was hoping there would be enough pancreas left to compensate.

But HE had to instigate an earlier appt with the diabetic clinic once he had got over the first post-op time and proved to himself his pancreas wasn't responding at all to eating virtually zilcho carbs - he'd been low carbing for yonks anyway - marking time whilst his other things got sorted - cos otherwise it would have been several months before they would have seen him.

Not good, is it?
