so i braved the weather and drove a 220 mile round trip to the retail managers meeting for my charity...lunch at 12.30 consisted of soggy white half bagettes ..you know the pre cooked warm up variety but under cooked, stodgy, buttered heavily with a slice of beef/turkey/tuna with a sprinkling of 'salad' large plate of crisps for all to share ...and for afters ??? a pate of pre cut up fruit ...

so a little competition for you all ..guess what i did/eat ?🙄

best answer gets a virtual christmas fare hamper of their choice ! 😉

lefty and found somewhere else to eat.

You ate the meat and then the packet of fruit pastilles you had in your pocket

You went to McDonalds:D

You knew they retail managers would put a rubbish spread on beforehand and whipped out the sarny in your bag :D

you took your own low carb lunch with a tasty sweet treat for afters

Topping off bagette, with a bit of base bread would be OK. If it were me, I'd bring any uneaten bread home for our ducks 🙂

Some of the fruit might have been OK, but you don't say what types were served.

If it were me, and by my reckoning - The chef!

Meeting at DUK head office, lunch provided. Approx 10 of 'us' mix of Types, one 'parent of' plus 2 staff.

Looked lovely, all sorts of sandwiches and rolls on interesting breads with scrummy-looking fillings.

Jenny - So - how many carbs in all these goodies? Have you got the labels?

DUK and some of the others - Blank faces.

It's all very well, yes I can 'eyeball' but it's hard when almost nothing on the table are things I 'normally' have - eg mini granary rolls, wraps etc. It looked very much like an M&S buffet to me, and certainly there were a couple of packets of M&S biccies. So it ain't rocket science, not like chef would have to calculate it.

So of course, you deliberately try to under-estimate, don't you? Just in case.

Aaaaaarrrgghhh.

Just thought - do T2's try to OVER estimate - if they aren't on insulin?

That's why LATE afternoon meeting are a much better idea. 😉

well what happened was i looked at the remains of what was left ...and asked if they had any wholemeal/seeded bread versions?....waiter went away and inquired ...no was answer but bless them he did provide me with a salad ...few lettice leafs and turkey and beef sliced on top ...fine

the issue i have really is that no choice was provided ...

and i was noticed by all folks in the room getting 'something different '

when i sat down at the table to finally eat i just simply said 'if i had eaten that i would have been asleep all afternoon' 😎

consequently i am now sending links to this forum to a few colleagues, who i had never met before who are / know someone with Diabetes 🙂

vitual xmas puds to you all !:D

Just thought - at the DUK Big Event in the summer I was talking to a T1 lady after one of the talks and we went in to lunch together. She hadn't ordered a coeliac meal because she thought it might still be high carb, in fact they were various salads, with a choice of coeliac breads. And you were issued with a chitty or something and there were only just enough for those who'd ordered them.

The rest of us got a choice of sandwiches which were pre=packed in those triangular things (so you couldn't have eg half a round of tuna and half of summat else unless you had a friend with you who liked the same things) and I think had the carb counts - they must have done, I don't remember being grumpy! LOL

In any case she isn't coeliac anyway, but has some other digestive probs that prohibit certain things. Again a quiet word with a waiter brought the required salad although she had to wait a few minutes. Considering the large scale of the event, we both thought that was pretty good really.
