Hello all!!! 🙂 i keep having 2 week appointments to see db nurse, they are worried about my bp, yesterday was 165/104 and she looked at me and went....hmmm?...this has been going on for 3 months and now another appoinment has been made with quack in one week....she has given me a bp meter and all the readings keep coming up the same!! i have told her i do not want to take more meds and it just seems i have to keep taking more meds for other probs.......i so just want to get back to norm but every time i get my head around something then something else pops up..i have heard bp tabs can cause other probs but she seems certain i will need some meds to keep it at bay..im 35 and feel about 80 and i no it sounds stupid as a lot of peeps on here take more meds etc but i feel as soon as i do well something else pops up  so hard to keep my head up...just want to be a normal person again.

I used to feel the same way. All these pills and potions makes you feel medicalised beyond your years :( But given that you have diabetes, one of the things that you really do need to sort out is your blood pressure as it can affect, in particular, your eyes and kidneys. I take a small dose of a BP med and have no side-effects from it at all - really, it's no big deal and it helps. If you do have problems with one then there are different types they can try, but it is worth it fr the protection they give 🙂

There are other things that you can do to help with the BP. Avoid having lots of alcohol. Do aerobic exercise regularly (swim, run, cycle) - this will help enormously. Cut back on salt intake. If you commit yourself to these things then it may be that you won't need to take the meds forever - I'm down to a very small dose now and may be able to stop mine soon. 🙂

When I was diagnosed I was put on 11 different pills - I'm now only on one because the things the other pills were treating are no longer a problem as I have learned how to tackle them 🙂

Avoid caffeine - tea, coffee, coca cola in all it's forms.

It's sposed to be 135/80 or under - so that does indicate you have a prob at the moment.

What do YOU think is causing it?

Lack of exercise?

Too high BG?

What?

Compared to Diabetes, Blood pressure control is a walk in the park.
I take 1 pill am and 2 at night to control mine and it hardly ever varies these days. If you have other pills to take, just get a pill organiser, simple, no?:D.
Of course if you don't then you will continue to feel strange and maybe even wake up (if you are lucky) on a heparin drip (also known as a clot buster).
I haven't had or know of any diabetes related problems with BP meds.

I do have a cheeky drink....but i am not over weight....i swim i love sport activitys....i never stop!!! im like a water baby and cannot stay still.....honestly......im so confused.......all my passed family had probs.....but they live in wales so never brought up with health probs part from my dad....he was so ill with heart probs and i had to go to london year after year to see if i had his condition.....but when he passed away at 53 i never went back. he had bad bp but never had diabetes....pahhhhhh,,,,so much to say but don't want to bore everyone......worse peeps of than me.

If your family's had issues with blood pressure in the past, that could be indicative of a genetic component. Everyone on my father's side of the family has/had hypertension and guess what? At 20, I was told I had it too. In these cases, there could be very little in terms of lifestyle that will make a real difference. Basic things like diet, exercise and reducing salt intake are supposed to help (exercise makes the biggest difference) but it may be that you'll need to take another tablet every day.

I know, it sucks, and all this stuff doesn't half make you feel old before your time. It'll all be worth it when you're 70 and alive to see your grandkids though I reckon.

Alcohol and caffeine do affect blood pressure, but salt has a greater effect. So, that's the thing to concentrate on cutting down.

Good luck!

So much to keep an eye on...i hate going shopping everything you look at says eat me now!!!! never used to look at the labels on the back until now..and on some products it's shocking the amount of sugar and salt that goes into foods.
🙂

That's why it's always better to make your own food. I'm on a low-carB diet - anything that comes neatly packaged in a cardboard box probably is bad for you.

Just so you know, the salt content in Pot Noodles contains 1.4g of salt. The RDA is only 6g and if you've got high blood pressure you probably want less than that too.
