went to see my d nurse again today to get my hb down, she is testing me for this on a monthly bases. i know that its a good thing that she is keeping an eye on me but it is not showing signs of going down enough and i feel that its warrents me going insulin but my d nurse wants to tackle it with diet and with no change in meds. i am going mad with the diet that i dont know what else to cut out food wise that it not making much difference.

would she not be better putting me forward for insulin and stop farcing about for the next 6 months trying to get it down with diet as i am begining to loose my will to live and getting rather p..... off with it all😡

Sounds rather frustrating. But what "diet" are you on.
Have you read Maggie Davey's "Open Letter" and ( member) Alan S's "Test, Review, Adjust" in our stickies section in the Newbies thread. Those two should help diet wise.
Alan S has also written a book available on Amazon called "What on Earth Can I eat" for Type 2 Diabetics.

For some people with T2, adding insulin is also a bad idea. T2's something of a spectrum disorder and part of that includes insulin resistance. If you're very insulin resistant, adding more insulin doesn't really do a lot. You'd need massive doses, which are not only expensive, but also harmful. Excess insulin promotes weight gain, which aggravates insulin resistance even further, not to mention causing other issues.

What exercise are you doing in conjunction with your diet?

Insulin for T2s is just another option, and certainly should not be ruled out. The body needs what it needs so insulin should not necessarily be seem as some sort of 'last resort' or 'failure'. Some T2s beta cells seem to burn out and injected insulin can lend a hand.

Diet will *always* form a crucial part of any D management programme, no matter what meds are involved. Can I ask what diet is being advised TC? Can you give an 'example day' for other T2s here to comment on?

Is the insulin your idea, TC? There are other solutions (Byetta, Victoza) or are they not funded by your surgery?

For those of us T2s on insulin, apart from the DVLA problems, it is a good thing. I would rather be on insulin with good levels than have high levels.
I don't see that cost comes into the equation, it costs the NHS about ?2 for my daily insulin. Maintaining a low carb diet is good for people on a diet/exercise regime or on insulin and I haven't put on weight because of it. It's like that other urban myth that quitting smoking makes you gain weight - it doesn't, it's what you do that makes you put on weight.
