My Diabetic Review

Hi,

If it's ok i'd like to let you know how i went on with my diabetic review today 07/12/11 also following the phone call last week off my Dsn saying about my great HbA1c result http://www.diabetessupport.co.uk/boards/showthread.php?t=23401

As i said in the above link / thread my bs results are all over the place.
My Dsn would like to see me again in about 10 days time because

1. she was rather concerned about me having a lot of lo's & also the fact of all the jelly babies (i have 4 -6 for each hypo), she wants me to have instead either dextrose gel or tablets

2. she has said to me to lower my BI from 34u to 30u

i've booked my appointment for next Thursday 15/12/11

Gill 🙂

It does sound like a lot of jelly babies to treat a hypo - normally I would have between 1 and 3. Only in exceptional circumstances would I have more than 3 and this would be when my levels were dropping like a stone. It does therefore sound like your hypos are really hitting hard so the reduction in basal should be a big help. Dextrose tablets or gel may get into your system slightly quicker than JBs as the latter contain gelatin which can slow up digestion slightly.

Hope the basal reduction is a big help. You might want to consider some basal testing in order to determine if your dose is too high or too low - this involves skipping a meal and seeing if your basal holds your levels steady for a few hours when you have no fast-acting insulin or food in your system. Basal insulin is just supposed to cover the output from your liver.

Good luck, let us know how things go! 🙂

Thank you for explaining this to me about the Dextrose tablets & JBs

Yes i'll certainly let you know how i go on, thank you.

Gill 🙂

HbA1c & Diabetic Review

HbA1c
(6 monthly) done on 15th May 2012

Diabetic Review
had this today - 31st May 2012

Test results
HbA1c - 49 (new) 6.6% (old) 🙂 😱 (9.6% - August 2011 / 6.8% December 2011)
Cholesterol - 4.1 (DSN said very good for this)
HDL - 1.6 (ditto)
LDL - 2.1 (ditto)
Triglcerides - 0.8 (ditto)
Kidney function GFR - 8.7 (DSN said excellent for this)
Blood pressure 160 / 80 (DSN is a bit concerned about this. Got to go back & see DSN in a couple of weeks time, take my own bp monitor (which i have got one of) & she'll take bp on my monitor & either ask me to do a few tests on this & take results in to her or depending on things she may give me a 24 hr monitor. I do already take ramipril 10mg so we'll see)
BMI 27.2

Appointment
- DSN thinks i'm doing very well with my Diabetes and i seem to know more than her about what i'm doing lol. DSN asked me what an assisted hypo is.
- She's arranged for me to see the new dietician at the surgery. Counting carbs is one of the new dieticians fortes. My DSN may sit in on the appointment to learn a few more things.
- DSN is arranging for me to go to the Diabetes Education course in Warrington. I asked if the course was for type 1 & she said it's for type 1 & type 2. It's for 6 weeks 1 day per week am or pm and covers a different topic each week.
- Apparently a 3 month HbA1c is none fasting & 6 month HbA1c is fasting.
- Got to reduce my current 28u BI of Lantus tonight to 26u & see if after 3 or 4 days or 1 week if there are fewer morning hypos.

All excellent stuff Gill, well done! 🙂 Your BP sounds a bit like mine - in the surgery mine was 150/80 but on my home monitor it is usually 100/70 or below 🙂 Great HbA1c 🙂

Thank you AJLang & Northerner. It all comes from all the help i get from the forum, this is the place where i have learned most of my Diabetic stuff. Pitty about the BP result buy hey ho!

Great results Gill ....well done!! 🙂

Whiskymum well done..

I took my BP monitor into my DNS, so that mine could be compared to their's and yep, very close in readings, so the 138/70 I get in surgery is a WCS, as at home I'm down in the 110-120/60 no wonder when they decided to try me on BP a couple of years back I would spin out!
