Just a quickie...

I woke up to a 5.2 this morning and had 2 weetabix with semi-skimmed milk, I tested 2 hrs later with a reading of 5.4. Does this mean I'm ok with weetabix or just need to test later????

I would say your fine with it my uncle type 1 has had weetabix for his brekkie every morning for the past 15 years of his diagnosis and keeps trying to get me into the stuff YUK lol.5.4 is a fab morning reading x

It's possible that you might have been higher at one hour, as some people find that Weetabix has a fairly swift spike despite its 'slow-release' claims, so worth repeating and testing at one hour as well 🙂

I wouldn't be surprised if you were fine though, as your isulin resistance has clearly all but disappeared with your weight loss and exercise 🙂

Thanks Steff; nice to have something different for breakfast than All-bran or wholemeal toast....🙄

Thanks Alan; as its bank holiday tomorrow I'll test it at 1hr and 2hr - find it difficult durying the week as I'm on the bus 1hr after having breakfast...xx

Hi Amanda,
Weetabix has a terrible effect on me. If I have 2, I can safely say that my levels will go to about 15 for about 4-5hrs after (depending on what I'm doing), and that's with about 20 units of Novorapid. I find that most, if not all, wheat products have this effect on me (including bread). Yet I can eat chocolate with little or no effect at all, odd or what?
I think that it just goes to show that we're all different, and different things affect different people. Needless to say that I avoid weetabix like the plague.

i cant tolerate many creals at all, stick to burgen bread toast. Weetabix sends me to 15 2 hours later and find i have a hypo not long after.

As Kwaka said, we are all different, I have 2 Weetabix every morning with Activia pouring yoghurt over them, take my normal insulin, and they are ok for me, have never had problems.

I dont eat them regularly but are fine with me. As others have said everyone different

I have found that 2 Weetabix in the morning spiked me at 2 ans 4 hours - BUT if I had it midday very little change!! Only found out whilst testing before/after all meals for 3 days under GP instruction.

Thank you; I've just had 2 weetabix so am going to test 1 hr on (10.20am); 2hrs (11.20am) and I'll include 4 hrs (1.20pm) which will be a good indicator before lunch....🙂

Hi Amanda

I have Weetabix a couple of times a week just for a change, and I never have a problem with them.🙂 Katiex

Back in the dim and distant past a school friend used to eat Weetabix smeared with butter then add salt and finally topped with Strawberry jam.

Me and my sister used to have buttered Weetabix when we were kids in the '60s 🙂 No salt or jam though! 😱

His other favourite was Bread & jam sprinkled with sugar and dipped in tea.

I never went to tea at his house!!!

Ok so had two weetabix and did a 1hr; 2hr; 3hr test and these we're the results.

Wake up 4.5
2 weetabix for breakfast...

1hr later - 6.2
2hrs later - 7.3
3hrs later 5.3

So not too bad - so am going to have weetabix twice a week only...🙂

Weetabix are great never a problem and always a reliable breakfast. Have had two weetabix every day since 1988. Thats twenty-four years getting on for 17,520 weetabix is this a record?

Weetabix saved my life when I was a baby as I was losing weight and it was the only solid food I could keep down. 🙂
