Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I was diagnosed with type2 diabetes just two days ago.
Before diagnosis I was vomiting at least once a day and had dreadful abdominal discomfort plus episodes of diarrhoea. I thought that I may have coeliac disease.
Anyway on diabetes diagnosis I had ketones in my urine and a BM of 24.6.
I was started on metformin.
My blood sugar is still in the high 20's and I have 3 pluses of ketones in my urine, am still vomiting, still have dreadful abdominal discomfort and diarrhoea.
I panic when I read that a BM over twenty and a lot of ketones necessitates
medical treatment when I was sent home from the surgery with these results.
I don't know what to do.

Hi Magz, welcome to the forum 🙂 Very sorry to hear how things are for you - how did they arrive at their diagnosis? I'm worried at your levels too, especially with high ketones present and the sickness. I would personally go to A&E as you sound very similar to how I was prior to diagnosis and I am wondering if they have misdiagnosed you, or at the very least that you need some medical attention to get you over this crisis.

i think Alan has given some very sound advice i would go to A+E with bs that high and that level of keytones

Hi Magz,
please go to A&E, there is a distinct posibilty you have been misdiagnosed with the wrong type of diabetes.
I'm not a medic but to me it sounds as if you have ketoacidosis which can be life threatening.
Hope you are soon sorted.

They diagnosed me from a blood sugar test, then urine when I was asked to go to the surgery.

What you are experiencing does not sound like Type 2 diabetes, and in any case you do need some medical attention. The treatment is very straightforward and you will be feeling much better within hours - please don't put it off Magz. Do you have anyone with you? If not, then call for an ambulance. Better safe than sorry.

Welcome to the forums Magz 🙂

I'd agree - my first thought was that even if you are Type 2 then they shouldn't be releasing you with blood glucose readings of 20+. Metformin is good for dropping it by about 2 mmol/L and that's about all.

Hi Magz,

I would agree with all above that you need to get to A&E asap as you need treatment urgently and then change your gp surgery first thing tuesday as they have medically misdiagnosed you by the sounds of it!

Hope they sort you out soon x

Well she was looking at the recipe section as i was going off to bed so i would assume she did'nt listen .

Anyways hope I am wrong Magz and you got yourself to hospital, please let us know how you are

Anyone heard from Magz? Hope she's ok?! 😱 Magz - please let us know you're alright. x

As Steff said, Magz was on the forum for hours after being told that hospital was needed promto as life threatening condition. So............... make your own mind up.

She may have been taken to A&E and left her computer logged in - would be nice to know what has happened, although she may not be in a position to tell us at the moment. I know I put off going to hospital until I was in a much worse situation i.e. I would not have been able to articulate how I felt and typed it into a computer, but I might have managed it a couple of days earlier.

Hope you are OK Magz 🙂

Cant be a case of forgetting to log out as she was showing her last activity as yesterday being the 6th,and she left her original message on the 5th..... Nevermind anyways synisism is my middle name and I'm thinking far t much about it lol
