That's a really interesting review, thanks Mike. 🙂 If I wasn't on an Accu-Chek combo meter (remote control is the BG kit) I'd be quite interested, albeit cautiously given the variation in results - like you said it seems interesting that the IBGStar was the furthest out & not consistent. That said, there have been times when I've had an unexpected result & have immediately retested 2-3 times because I've had quite significantly different results! (don't tell the gp lol, I'll be shot for testing too much!).

Overall if they could fix the lack of bolus calculator & the results scatter it sounds like a good bit of kit that might just be techy enough to get younger teens for instance interested. 🙂

Yep! I have also been one of the lucky ones to be sent one to review and it feels good that i can actually reveal it now and no more secrets lol!

I will be posting my review on my blog tomoro although by reading yours it wont be as detailed! i dont have the time or way with words lol but i will do my best 🙂

Great review. Glad you got on well with it 🙂

Interesting. I thought ?25 for the contour USB was bad enough, but ?48! and then I found the Medisana Glucodock, which looks functionally similar but costs a wapping ?80, has anyone looked at that one?
The standard Medisana meditouch costs ?9.99!

Someone mentioned the GlucoDock to me yesterday. Not sure if/when it would be available in the UK (the online order form doesn't allow you to select UK as country). Also not sure about availability of strips for it - though tbh I have heard of people being told that strips for the iBGStar are a bit tricky to get hold of!

I'm around 2 months away from trading in my Blackberry. To tempt me off my Accu_Check Aviva Expert, the iBG Star (or the app) would need to:

* provide bolus advise based on variable ratios
* have an alarm to retest after 15 minutes when BG low
* have an alarm to remind me to retest after 4 hours when BG high

With the above there is a strong argument to invest in an i-phone, without it I'm happy with the expert and its software, so any phone will do.

Did any other members here get to 'test drive' the fancy new iBGStar meter from Sanofi Aventis? There was a thread a while back where the marketing agency were offering a few meters in return for a bit of feedback...

How did you get on with it?

I've posted a review here: http://www.everydayupsanddowns.co.uk/2012/03/ibgstar-review-blood-glucose-meter-for.html

Brilliant review, thank you so much for doing this - shame Sanofi aren't going take any notice!

I am also astounded at the number of you out there who don't use/need the bolus calculator - how do you do it?? Before I got my Aviva Expert, I discovered InsulinCalculator for the iphone, which also does bolus calculations. The only problem with it is that it can only work in whole numbers for 'Carbohydrate Factor' ie the ralationship between how many units of insulin to carbs, so can get a bit complicated. Its positive side is that it connects to the DiabetesDiary where results are logged along with other details, and graphs etc can be seen and downloaded to your computer. But transferring info from meter to iphone and putting in more information is one step too many for me - am I too lazy?

None of these are perfect, I suppose it's finding the best option, mine is still the Expert. Good to see another company maaking an effort.
