Little Miss Chatterbox

Type 2
Had bloods with the nurse this morning and for once she found a vein and got enough claret to fill 3 test tube things, never felt so chuffed lol, she said to me are you the type who needs to lie down I said depends on how boring your chat is with me lol..
2 weeks wait now for results.Funny how little things like that leave a big impact on me these days

That line made me chuckle.....:D

Thats my girl :D

Isn't it strange how excited we get when we see our blood filling the phials 🙂

John.

2 weeks though  Mine only take 3 days. Makes the wait a lot easier, maybe you are being tested for more than me. Or once again maybe it is the postcode lottery.

Oops forgot. Hope the results are good and in line with your expectations and well done for arranging for that vein to be there to produce the goods 🙂

Hope the results are good Steff, but 2 weeks 😱 Down here you can ring the next day for them.

I get my bloods done, later this wek, for my appointment, next week. With all that's going on, at the moment, I am dreading the results.

Ours should be available next day (they rae at the hospital) but for some reason they don't appear on the GPs stupid computer system for at least a week.

Thank you

Oh the 2 week thing dont bother me its just how it always been

Hi

My results normally take 3 to 4 days. I normally don't give up any blood without a fight. I was told to drink 2 pints of water prior to a test & it did work once! Also try to keep arm/hand warm to help.

They use childrens needles on me now (apparently I have small deep veins) & end up putting a "butterfly" needle in. The threat of having to get a doctor in normally does the trick for a vein to give up its cargo.

On Monday I'm off to the local hospital for some pre-tests to see if I'm suitable to join a study in the use of low dose aspirin for type 2. I have to fast from the night before so we'll see how good they are at the OCDEM at blood sucking (Actual diabetes place if you are not looked looked after by your GP).

SimplesL - I'd check about fasting - if it means juts avoiding food, then make sure you drink water, as it's very difficult to get blood out of someone who is dehydrated.

Hope you can be involved in your study - I've always found the experience of being a volunteer and staff in various (different) studies very positive.

Many thanks she did tell me to fast from 10pm; but to drink water and remember to bring my metformin with me as once bloods taken they provide a snack and remind me to take my tablet.

Dehydration is the main problem with me although I do drink what they suggest to try & help. Only once the nurse managed to get it out without a fight mainly due to it being warm when it is cold it's another story. I even have a coat with a fake fur insert I wear. In the waiting room once they asked if I had a problem as sat there with coat/gloves thick jumper when it was quite warm in there.

I'm just awkward I recon. They also book slightly longer for my appointment just in case!

Little things like this make a such a difference Steff. Nothing worse than someone digging in your arm. I have to go to the Hospital for my vampire as the Surgery cannot find a vein. Mind you, when I was in Hospital, I told the Dr. who was causing me unbearable pain with no result after 4 attempts, that I would sue him for assault if he carried on and I meant it. A lovely Nurse came along and did it successfully first time.
Love your gag to the Nurse too.

Maisie.

Maisie,
Yes its happened to me r.e the 4 times, one occasion the nurse made 4 attempts to get blood left me with loads of bruises, second time I was actually sent to the hospital cause a seperate nurse could not get blood I was fuming

SimplesL - how's your Thyroid? Being colder than 'normal' (whatever 'normal' is LOL) is a symptom of hypothyroid.

And I agree wholeheartedly with water! Makes all the difference.

Many thanks my thyroid was checked along with everything else when diabetes picked up. Thankfully all as it should be.

More due to old draughty surgery which in a couple of weeks is being replaced with a brand new shiny one.

On a lighter note in Sept 10 my diabetes picked up in some pre-op tests for what turned out to be early breast cancer. Anyway the nurse at the hospital was faced with quite a challege. To get enough blood out of me for the tests they run. Having not had any health issues for over 30 years not had blood tests before.

She started on my left arm which ended up with a variety of cotton wool balls and plasters. Moved onto right arm which finally gave up its cargo after having a butterfly inserted in my right hand. She then asked me to put my coat on so none could see what she had "done to me".

The GP practise nurses do have a problem with me in that I won't let them use my left arm. Since surgery & radiotherapy I get an occasional swelling in my lymph nodes due to damage from having surgery very common no one's fault. If I get any further damage or infection it could make this worse; so they are stuck with the right one which as a child I broke my elbow very badly & left with an arm which doesn't go completly straight so it does cut down their options.

I get my results in three days as well. The nurse found a good vein this time too. I suggested I might get an arrow tattooed on my arm pointing to it with the words "drill here". Last time was a nightmare with five attempts before they took it from my foot. I still have whacking great bruise though, I usually do.
