In my efforts to pull up my socks, I have given up chocolate. (Not altogether yet but working really hard on it!)
Is there a good diabetic chocolate out there?
I would like to be able to have something and not feel guilty.
Any suggestions please.
Eagerly anticipating any responses!
Thank you, Hilary 🙂

The problem with diabetic chocolates is that the sweeteners they tend to use tend to be good laxatives. Also, I've noticed that they tend to contain more carbohydrate then a normal chocolate.

I've swapped to the occasional chunk or two of dark chocolate.

Any dietician or DSN I have spoken to advises the real stuff in moderation.

The artificial sweetners in some products have a laxative effect.

Thank you, thought that may be the answer these days. I'll have to try really hard to just have a square or two rather than the whole bar. I can do it!

Concentrate on really good chocolate. At least 70% cocoa solids or greater. It's incredibly rich. And though I adore it, and always preferred it anyway pre-D - two squares is actually my limit. (I've clinically tested that, it's not just a theory :( ) Brilliant stuff.

I went round to a friends for dinner last night and afterwards she brought out some of these:

I weighed out 60g which is almost 20g carb. They're are high in fat (and probably not as healthy as they want you to think) but they are absolutely gorgeous! Really chocolatey so it feels like you have eaten loads of chocolate when you haven't. When I was eating them I thought I must tell the people on the forum about them....
The problem is my friend was given the tub as a xmas present, so need to find out where to get them from.

I'm with Trophywench. My two favourites are Green & Blacks or for a cheaper option Lidls Amazonas, both 70%. Yummy. I've only tried "diabetic" products once and had tummy upsets both times.

IMHO you can't beat Green and Black's dark chocolate...... oh yummy yummy 😛 I used to sit and eat half a bar at a time 😱 but nowadays I have to content myself with one or two squares. but if you nibble it in a slow manner, the body/brain thinks you have had lots 🙄

Is it OK to have Green & Blacks Dark Choccy with cherries in it ? I love it but have thought I'd better keep away from it because the cherries might alter the "good" choc versus "bad" choc ratio - any thoughts gang ?

Looks like there are options out there, thank you guys.
The munchy seeds do look interesting, might have to give those a try.
Also really like the darker chocolates too so all is not lost!

Go for the real stuff. Less carbs usually.

I did some tests and found how long a chunk of chocolate takes to make my blood sugar return to what it was before I had it.

May I suggest you eat it a little at a time so you don't get the big spike in your blood glucose.

I can make a Yorkie bar last about 4-5 hours. Your body will most likely vary.
