Please can you tell me? Diagnosed with IGT I don't get referred for feet checks, but thinking of paying for a private consultation. Sorry if I appear stupid, but what's the difference between a podiatrist and a chiropodist and do they do the same checks? Katie

Aaaah! Thought so, but was too embarassed to say so in case I was wrong!😱 Katiex

Isn't it silly though, the number of times they put 'chiropody/podiatry' on that description! 🙄 Why not decide on one?!!

It's just the spelling Katy, Podiatrist is American for Chiropodist and seems to have been imported here in recent years.

Aaaah, now then now then, hold your horses!

I found out (from a Podiatrist addressing a local DUK meeting!) recently that Podiatry is feet - end of. Chiropody is HANDS and feet !

I asked my podiatrist last week why the name change and apparently Podiatry is more reflective of the extra work they do, eg ulcerations, lower limb alignment, thats sort of thing. Any the wiser?, no, nor me.:D

So everyone, what do you call yours then (if you don't think it's too personal too ask😛)?!! Katie:D

I've often wondered - glad someone asked - thank you!
