My GP surgery has website which once registered you can book appointments; order repeat prescriptions. My prescription is "automatic"; I just turn up at chemist of choice on agreed date and it's waiting for me. just been given my dates for next year.

Bit concerned though last time I went to GP he had can of WD40 apparently he uses a bike!

Anyone know of a medical condition you need WD40 for? More cost cutting possibly.
 
My GP surgery is housed in a snazzy custom-built (circa 2000) block, and has automatic doors (with a manually-operated back door in case the automatic door breaks down, as it did one year when I went to the Saturday flu-jab clinic), a touch-screen check-in facility, on-line booking and repeat prescriptions, TV sets (tuned to the GP-surgery channel of course) and LED annunciators in both waiting rooms, and even a lift between the two floors so us crips don't have to be seen on the ground floor (though we usually are). No aquarium, though -- should I tell them they need one in order to be truly modern? 😉

One thing which annoys me, for some reason it's never possible to book a nurse appointment online; those can only be done at reception.
 
We also have a screen where you book yourself in & name comes up on electronic scoreboard; except there is sometimes a bit of confusion and running for the hills when the message "The Doctor will see you now" comes up & none knows who it's for etc.

They haven't got their annunciator system set up properly; instead of saying "The Doctor" and "you" without any hint of what either term means, my surgery's screens say "Mr Joe Bloggs room X ground floor" (or "first floor" as appropriate). No ambiguity. 😛

Ah Robert - it looks like your surgery website is set up on exactly the same model as mine, so you can also (eventually) get to the forum I described in my initial post. Only for there to be nothing there to read when you get there! 🙄

They're probably both set up by EMIS (Egton Medical Information Services), who run the online access for several GP surgeries including mine.

Never needed WD40 at a GP's surgery, but on emerging from running group Christmas meal last year, I had to ask around a pub car park for de-icer, when snow had melted into my bike lock and refrozen - fortunately, a fellow runner had a can in his car. This year, I took the offer of lift, as my knee can't really cope with 12 mile round trip!

Actually, I reckon that keeping a bike repair kit, pump and some oil under reception desk is a good service to encourage cycling by staff and patients.
 
Crikey - you'd likely have most of it nicked if you parked a bike at ours. Thinking about it, they haven't got a rack or anywhere you could sensibly chain a pushbike up to, so I probably wouldn't want to go there on one in the first place.
 
Not even a lamp post or metal fencing near your surgery, Trophywench? Sometimes such items can be better than poor racks which only take a wheel, so thief could unbolt bike, leaving just the wheel. A chain is never enough, but a U bar puts up a fair bit of defence!

Many years after being frustrated by the lack of bike rack at the GP surgery I attended from ages 9 to 18, I found myself (by then in late 30s), sitting on a panel with one of the GPs - and mentioned the lack of bike racks, something I wouldn't have had the courage to do as a teenager. He took it on board, and racks soon appeared!
 
My doctors has surgeries in 2 separate buildings about 6 doors away from each other on the same street. They both have 6 big steps up to them.

You always have to go to the main surgery first, queue to speak to the very rude receptionist and are often then told your appointment is at the other one. So you have to go back down the steps, along the street and back up the other lot of steps by which time you are late for your appointment. I managed to break a buggy doing this.

I have no idea how people with mobility issues would get into the surgery at all. Rubbish.

You can do a repeat prescription on line though, you just can't then get into the surgery to collect it!

I would have thought they would need to provide disabled access by law. It's apalling that a surgery of all places discriminates against those with mobility problems.

Lucky! Although they just put a massive aquarium in the wall of the waiting room!! Also noticed the doctors rooms have been redone really nice with massive leather chairs and decor.....our tax money well spent lol

Though the aquarium has been there since I was a little girl and though my daughter wanted to see the "fishies" today and spent a long time looking at them, it's certainly seen better days!!! :D

We can ONLY order repeats now online, or in person in writing - no phone requests now, I have to say I much prefer it that way - I can make my request CLEARER than trying to do it through a silly receptionist person! And we have a website.....though no link to anything diabetes related...just a huge noticeboard in the surgery waiting room about it!
 
Am feeling well left out here. No fish tank. No website. And a door which opens with a twisty handley thing! Guess it comes with being up in the middle of nowhere though :D
