Blood Pressure

My blood pressure tablets were increased a week ago, does anyone know how long it takes for them to take effect.

When my tablets have been increased they have had a fairly prompt impact, although it may be an individual thing and vary according to the type of tablet. I got myself a home monitor as my BP is always higher at the surgery and the information I have got from my home readings has meant that I haven't had to increase my medications since getting the monitor. They're very cheap these days - mine is an Omron M2 Monitor which is clinically approved and the same make (but not quite as sophisticated!) as my GP's 🙂

I do check mine at home I have an Omron M7, I am also recording my readings on my iphone I have downloaded BP Companion it allows me to export my readings to Excel, I took a copy to the surgery when I attended my diabetic review and they decided to double my meds, I have been taking the increased dosage for a week and my reading this morning was 140/92 this evening it is 119/75 I would just like to see it lower in the morning. I am due a BP check at the surgery in the new year. Maybe I just have to be a little bit more patient. I take Valsartin.

I find that my readings do vary through the day - say 130/78 at one time then 110/70 at another time in the day. I take Candesarten. Perhaps your 140s will start to come down soon 🙂 One thing that I was told was that sometimes simply increasing one med might not produce the desired effect and that sometimes two meds need to be taken in combination.

Can I ask,

You said this morning you were 140/92 was this before you started the increased meds? And the 119/75 was after you've increased your meds?

Normally you would expect BP to increase over the day, so morning is normally lower than the evening... If the above is your readings with the increased meds, perhaps speak to your doctor to see if changing your timing of taking your meds might improve your readings?
