One thing that slightly annoyed me at my review was when the nurse weighed me - the scales read 74kg, but she said ah! 75kg and wrote it down. Not only that, but I had all my winter clothes on, including my shoes, so how can it have any kind of accuracy? From weighing myself at home I know that the weight recorded is about 3kg more than my actual weight! 🙄

My GP nurse likes doing that too 🙄

The nurse at the hospital clinic did at least ask if I had weighed myself and took a note of the reading I supplied.

They always weigh me with my clothes on, so I'm pretty sanguine about it because it's more about the relative changes than the final result (in my humble opinion!).

Still, it's a bit of a liberty adding an extra kilo for good measure!

Andy 🙂

p.s. Although I usually take my shoes off.

Wait for your summer weigh in then Alan - wear flip flops shorts and a light tshirt and you will have lost 1/2 stone without even trying! I know all the tricks me!:D

I suppose they may only be looking for significant changes in weight, to spot any problems............

My clinic dont give the impression that they are really concerned with my weight, only blood sugar control and preventing complications........

Nursey always tells me to take my shoes and shocks off, when i leave she fumigates the room 😛

I try to wear my lightest clothes and take of my shoes - i'd jump on in the nud if I could but don't want anyone to fall over certain things lol x

I have to take shoes and socks off too. They use one of those impedance scales that measure fat. Prints out a little ticket which she puts in my notes, can't really argue with it.
(being me I just looked it up, costs $2,136.75, that's a very expensive weighing machine!)

There should be a clinic protocol for what people wear when being weighed - or at least anything unusual should be noted eg wearing a heavy outdoor coat. As long as the same clinic uses the same protocol, it's OK - they may well have a protocol that says "assume 1kg in winter for extra clothing"

Personally, I have to remove a waterproof jacket and fleece as soon as I enter hospital, after needing that insulation when cycling!

When I worked for a research project, weighing 7 year old children on impedence scales, they obviously didn't wear shoes, but we weighed a set of child's clothing (borrowed from son and niece of head of unit, as they were the right age) and recorded what each child was wearing eg school polo shirt / sweatshirt / shorts / trousers / skirt etc.

I always have been told to take my shoes off...and if they don't, I do it anyway. I'm usually in heels or boots if it's winter so probably the best idea!!

I however don't let them tell me how much I weigh. They just note it down and I shut my eyes.

I hate being weighed :(

I think what niggles me is that it's very hard for me to actually lose weight, so for the nurse to effectively add back on all that I've lost in the past few months is very annoying! 😱

So .... do they put a paper towel on the scale before you folk stand on it in bare feet? cos I sure as helll wouldn't!

They use a sitting down one at my clinic, at the docs I wear my shoes.

Socks / Tights Mrs!! i would stand bare footed

I always ensure that I put my handbag on the floor .......

I'm not sure they take much notice of the weight except to check your BMI. It seems not to get mentioned when I see a Dr.

Always get on the scales fully clothed and shoes on, I always assumed they would knock a pound or two off to allow for this but probably wrong:confused:

Oh dear...

When I go for my hospital visit and weigh in, I have my car/house keys, as much loose change in my pocket as possible, and my heaviest shows and a layer or two of cloths anything to inch those scales up to a reasonable looking weight, where I could avoid the 'be careful not to lose any weight' I'm accustomed to...

But most of it is to get a reasonable item of your weight, so that they can see any big increases/degreases of weight as indicators of something being wrong more that an absolute accurate weight
