The Big Blue Test

That was my thought Alan. I suspect it's aimed mainly at insulin resistant T2s to illustrate the positive effect of exercise. Sadly, many T2s won't be able to test...
I'm thinking about giving it a try today - depending if it rains at lunchtime or not. Usually I do it before having lunch that way there isn't (much) food on-board being thrown into the equation.

However... in the past when I've done this sort of test my before and after have matched each other pretty much. But then, when you start in the 5's maybe there isn't much lower you go before your liver starts pumping glucose to maintain.

This is the 3rd year of the Big Blue Test.
In the first year it was a relatively small event on Tu Diabetes forum. I got interested in what difference it made overall . Basically out of the 120 people who posted recognisable results 80% had reduced levels with an average fall of 1.41mmol/l, those that rose had an average rise of 0.6mmol. So for most people even 14min made a significant difference.

Heres just what a couple of people said

What an eye-opener. Before exercise, 147, after walking on treadmill for 14 minutes, 108. What an incentive to take care of myself while I am in early stages

My exercise was folding laundry as I am not able to exercise heavily, started with 8.6 mmol/L and after 14 minutes it was 6.7

( from my blog http://typeonepointfive.blogspot.com/2009/11/world-diabetes-day.html)
So if you were thinking it's not worth it , give it a go 🙂

One of the most strenuous execises I do is when I wash the car. I ALWAYS need extra carbs no matter how much adjustment I make. It's the bending/stretching and arm wafting that does it. As well as the excitement of seeing a shiny car. 😱

Wax on, wax off :D

I totally forgot to test before joining in with Gay Gasper this morning! Will try and remember tomorrow 🙂

Well I've submitted: 5.4mmol/L before down to 5.0 mmol/L after 15 minutes brisk walking and a quick trip into Sainsburys 🙂

Although, given the effect supermarkets usually have - I suppose I should of expected a dip! :D

Managed to do mine. A stroll around local village while the car was in for service.

10:46 BG 5
11:02 BG 3.8

about 3/4 of a mile covered.

Had to stop before it went any lower and had a JB, followed by a visit to the nearest coffee shop for coffee and a slice of cake before walking back. 🙄

Rob

Never heard of it, but it will it a go.. 🙂

Steff, saw your Geordie Girl signature and the song Georgie Girl is now in my head, which is ok as I like it.. lol

Sorry to hear that GG. I hope he's not too down about it and his control isn't suffering for it.

7.5mmol to start then 15 minutes a small rise to 7.7mmol for today.

Thanks Rob, I'm afraid he is very down at the moment, his scan result confirmed trapped nerve, he is waiting to see a consultant, but that could take some time, they say there are no appointments in the foreseeable future..great!!

Just giving this a bump as http://www.bigbluetest.org/ is aiming to get 8000 participants by World Diabetes Day.

Did my first one today, however think I may have neede to wash my hands before. My results were 13.4mmol and after 15mins exercise went down to 4.9mmol!! 😱

You can enter multiple times so please take part and spread the word 🙂

Just had my second attempt and went from 5.6 to 3.7 in 14 mins 😱

Around 3500 people have taken part so far. Each time you take part a donation is made to help get life-saving supplies to people with diabetes in need.
