Should I be concerned that I have not had a period for over 18 months yet the FSH blood result came back as normal. As you may know I didn't have the best of appointments with my GP the other week so I'm not sure if I should pursue with her about the lack of periods. I haven't taken the mini pill r over 18 months either i am 43

Perhaps you have had an early menapause. If so and you had no symptoms and FSH is normal then count yourself lucky.

I know you don't want to hear this but you need to speak to your GP.

I think Steff had something like this (but not for as long). Maybe she could pm you or you her to compare notes. She did post about it too.

Sue -My understanding was that if I have had a normal FSH then it is not the menopause. I have also been feeling generally unwell/extremely tired for quite some time now

I'm assuming that the FSH is checking out menopausal hormones!

43 would be consider young whether it would be medically classed as premature menopause I really don't know..

It may be linked to if you had problems with control etc.. But I think you should speak with your doctor about it, if your last appointment wasn't that great pehaps speak to one of the other doctors in the practice, but just because your last appointment was problematic doesn't mean that the next will do..

And by the sounds of it, you do need to speak to a doctor, otherwise it will weigh on your mind not good as it could faff up your BG control

. Thanks Margie I will pm Steff, I hadn't realised that she'd had a similar problem

Hi,
Thanks for the mention Margie, Amanda Margie is right it was me, i did not go as long without a period but 4 month was a worry,if you would like to PM then feel free we can discuss it in private or here im not fussed

Hi Steff do we mind if we discuss it on the noticeboard, I'm not too great with PMs. Was your GP helpful? Did they give any reasons for it happening or any suggestions as to what to do?

No problems Amanda, was just looking back at my previous posts back in March when i was having issues but cant find much there that would help.Well firstly my first thought was am i pregnant so took 2 tests which came back negative so then had to have one with my GP which also came back negative, still after having no period my doc took tests for my istrogen levels etc and all that came back normal. So she said next step was appointment at hospital with a gynagologist after 2 month wait i went off to have an internal at the hospital which was very uncomfortable but still nothing could be found wrong with me after that all my organs womb, overies etc were fine, but I did have a lining of something thick which i cant remember right now but that was because i was having no periods.I was put on Medroxyprogesterone acetate tabletes for 5 days these tablets bring on your periods which happily they did, and after that i had a follow up appointemnt with my GP in August and have had regular periods ever since so I was more then chuffed as you can imagine.
I would certainly say having a female doctor helped me immensly in this situation as she was very sympathetic and helpful, and even rung me one day asking how I was.I would say certainly get it looked at beause 18 month is such a long time without a period for no apparent reason.

Do you have any other problems i,e pain when weeing or stomach cramps?

Endometriosis was also mentioned to me but was not looked into

Hi Steff

Thanks very much Steff that's really very helpful. I don't have any pain at all - nothing has happened, no discharge or anything at all - it may even be longer than 18 months but I know that it is definitely that long since I stopped the mini pill and nothing has happened (and not much was happening for a year or two before). I had assumed it was the menopause - hence my complete surprise when the FSH result came back as normal. It's clearly not my blood sugars causing the problem either as my last HBA1C was 7.4. I've got another ESR test this week and I think that I will then have to force myself to go back to the GP - but it's something that I don't really want to do. I really can't afford to see anyone privately but I was wondering about whether or not to see an endocronologist privately to see if he might have any ideas. I guess I'm just trying to find out the reason for this complete fatigue and thinking that the lack of periods may be linked to this.

I have just had a read on the net and most sites say blood tests are not that accurate due to fluctuations in hormone levels. But menapause is complete if no period for 12 months. 1% of females have early menapause. Tiredness is part of the menapause though. I have just recently stopped my HRT to see how I get on without it. Tiredness is the main symptom.

Thanks Sue for looking this up. Before she did the blood tests my GP didn't seem to think that I would be post menopausal (she also told me that I didn't look depressed and didn't look anaemic) so I'm not sure what to say to her now. The fatigue has got so bad that I had to take some time off work and I'm struggling now that I'm back at work.....so I don't know how I can get my GP to help me if she will only base her findings on the blood tests

Can you ring your diabetes clinic and ask for an apt with your Endo?
Write a list of all things that bother you and the effect they have on your life.
Do make sure you tell them when you last had a period as well.
The fact you are having to take time off work is not good.
Another suggestion to think about is the insulin's you use. Any chance one of these is causing the problems? I have read of many reports where certain insulin's cause major problems. Lantus being the main culprit.

Thanks Sue that's an excellent idea. It's incredibly difficult to get an appointment with my "normal" diabetic consultant - however I do have an appointment at the beginning of November with the consultant that I see about my diabetic gastroparesis - there is a limit to how much she can help because she is not in my PCT buthopefully she will have some suggestions. Good question about the insulin - not sure how I find out, I'm on levemir - but I will discuss it with this consultant as well. Thank you very much.

Hi Sue - having gone through the side effects of my medications before I think that they probably are a big part of the problem, but none of my doctors will consider these as being the cause of the excessive tiredness that I keep telling them about. I want them to help when I say that I am too exhausted to do things on my days off, especially now that it has affected work. But they don't seem to understand and never suggest that it is because of the medications - I really, really, really don't want to have to take anymore time off of work because of the fatigue, I want to start having the energy to enjoy my life again.. I guess part of me is hoping that there is a reason for the excessive tiredness which can be easily treated..........part of me is also hoping that I will suddenly feel back to normal - at least I'm still trying to be an optimist

Well I have just looked up the others for you

http://www.patient.co.uk/medicine/Domperidone.htm drowiness

http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/medicines/100004505.html uncoman but know side effect

http://www.emedicinehealth.com/drug-pravastatin/article_em.htm tired feeling.

Reading that you are taking sleeping pills 24/7 and that lot mixed together enough to make anyone exhusted ill.

Copy the links off and say to your team Oi excuse me how about sorting this out?

You have got to stand firm and say the amount of exhustion is affecting my life and I could loose my Job over this.
So if you claim it's not the drug mix what is it, I need to know?
